Daily Open Thread for Sunday, February 24: I Will Survive

SURVIVOR a piece - by Hofesh Shecter in conjunction with the dazzling sculptor Antony Gormley's work.

Here's your "Daily Open Thread" for Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013. Throughout your day, come tell us whatever your heart desires, talk about this week's wrestling, or whatever else may be on your mind. Time spent here is guaranteed to be well worth it, no matter what we all chat about.

Here's your Daily Open Thread for Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013: As usual, come discuss whatever your heart desires. Whether you get bored at work, have something on your mind, or just want to chat with all your favorite lovely Cagesiders on any topic you want -- even some wrestling!

Today, I want to share a song that is best listened to at full volume, with extreme emotion or perhaps even when a little tipsy! This one is dedicated to a certain Cagesider who is a King among ranchos...

It is another time warp of sorts! So, Sherman, my lad, "Adjust the Way Back Machine to the year 1979"! To which his pet boy Sherman replies obediently, "Yes sir, but where are we going this time, Mr. Peabody?" I know young Cagesiders, most of you were not yet even a glimmer in your father's eyes in the seventies, and that reference just flew way the frack over your heads. But listen, this one is a classic and I am fairly certain even those of you born in the past 15 years or so will enjoy it, if you just give it a chance.

This video is being represented in this thread twice... why? Because, the first one is not the best audio of this song, but I love the live television footage experience showing the original disco era reactions from back in the day, so this is what you are getting. The second vid is of a cover done by one of the most famous Disco Queens of the seventies and early eighties, and is just well, way too fun not to show here as well. (WARNING: Anyone who cannot "Be A Star" about this, need not bother to comment on it... instead, go learn the Thumperian Principle.)

Like yesterday's song, this is one of those singles that has always remained in the top most played list on my iPod, my CD stand, my cassette tape box, my LPs and no, I did not have 8 tracks, not quite that old, but if I were, it woulda been in there. Without further ado, I present to you Gloria Gaynor, with one of their many hit singles from back in the day: "I Will Survive"

Enjoy ~

Just for fun and diversity, since the song has become a cult classic and anthem for gay rights enthusiasts, empowering both women and the oppressed minorities for decades, here is the version of Disco Queen Diana Ross with male cross-dressing entertainer Ru Paul performing the song live:

Then, after checking that out, you should be sure to scroll on down through the thread, make a comment or two -- or dozens; revisit it throughout the day (and night). You will likely enjoy some of the usual gems from your fellow Cagesiders, including:

Match of the Day, Music Video Link of the day, Babe of the day, Bro of the day, Alison Brie gif of the day, AJ Lee pic of the day, Photo Caption of the Day, and more!

No matter what it is that draws you in, just come chill out with us. Give it a go, or comment, or lurk... 'til your heart is content! The timeless lyrics to this classic song are listed below the line for those who want to follow along...

"I Will Survive"

Made famous by ~ Gloria Gaynor
Written by: Freddie Perren and Dino Fekaris

At first, I was afraid, I was petrified
Kept thinking, I could never live without you by my side
But then I spent so many nights thinking, how you did me wrong
And I grew strong and I learned how to get along

And so you're back, from outer space
I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face
I should have changed that stupid lock
I should have made you leave your key
If I'd known for just one second you'd be back to bother me

Go on now, go, walk out the door, just turn around now
'Cause you're not welcome anymore
Weren't you the one, who tried to hurt me with goodbye?
Did you think I'd crumble?
Did you think I'd lay down and die?

Oh, no, not I! I will survive!
Oh, as long as I know how to love, I know I'll stay alive
I've got all my life to live, I've got all my love to give
And I'll survive, I will survive, hey, hey

It took all the strength I had not to fall apart
Kept trying hard to mend the pieces of my broken heart
And I spent, oh, so many nights just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry, but now I hold my head up high

And you see me, somebody new
I'm not that chained up little person still in love with you
And so you felt like dropping in and just expect me to be free
But now I'm saving all my loving for someone who's loving me

Go on now, go, walk out the door, just turn around now
'Cause you're not welcome anymore
Weren't you the one, who tried to break me with goodbye
Did you think I'd crumble? Did you think I'd lay down and die?

Oh, no, not I! I will survive!!!
Oh, as long as I know how to love, I know I'll stay alive
I've got all my life to live, I've got all my love to give
And I'll survive, I will survive, oh

Go on now, go, walk out the door, just turn around now
'Cause you're not welcome anymore
Weren't you the one, who tried to break me with goodbye
Did you think I'd crumble? Did you think I'd lay down and die?

Oh, no, not I! I will survive!!!
Oh, as long as I know how to love, I know I'll stay alive
I've got all my life to live, I've got all my love to give
And I'll survive, I will survive, I will survive!!!!
