The Geek Goddess and I- Chapter 7 Creative Control

I woke up and realized I was alone in bed.

I looked up and AJ was on her laptop at the desk next to the bed. She was sipping some concoction from Starbucks. She had seen that I was awake.

“What time is it? When did you get up?” I asked

“Its 830. I get up at 7:30 everyday for some reason. I got you Starbucks. Regular coffee, cream, no sugar.” She proudly smiled.

“Perfect. You remembered.” I took the cup. I was about to take a sip and I noticed the name on the cup. I smiled at her.

“Whats with the dopey grin?” she asked

“Lucky. That’s what you had them write on my cup?”

“Well you are, right? You get to hang out with me.”

“When you put it that way, yes I am very lucky.”

She slipped off her Chuck Taylors and got back in bed.

“I could stay in bed in alllll daaay if that were allowed.” She said, stretching out.

“Well I am not going to stop you.”

We laid on our sides, face to face. Her eyes gazing back at mine, she was perfection. I pulled her into an embrace and kissed her on the forehead. We were soon sound asleep. Yes, the world’s most boring young couple.

The battle music from “Metal Gear Solid" (for the PS One of course) woke us up. She grabbed her cell phone. After a brief conversation, she hung up.

‘We gotta go, I have a meeting with the new creative guy overseeing the Divas.”

“Work, work, work. I thought I was on vacation.”

We arrived at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield. The mood the Divas this day was much different than prior days. There was a tension among them.

“This Zane Lancaster guy wants to meet with all the Divas. He looks like an ass clown.” Said Kaitlyn

“I heard he is Vince’s new golden boy. He got the coffee order right and now he runs the Divas.” Scoffed Layla.

They convened their meeting while busied myself with Nintendo DS, emails, etc. Two hours later, I was starting to wonder what was going on. I walked toward the meeting room and ran into Layla.

“Is the meeting over yet?” I asked

“Um its been over for like 20 minutes.” She said.

“Have you seen AJ? She never came back.”

“I think she is around here somewhere. Just so you know, it was not a good meeting.”

“Thanks for the tip. If you see her, tell her I am looking for her.”

I wandered around backstage. I peeked in a room and saw AJ’s ring gear hanging in the corner. But she was nowhere to be seen. There was only a bunch of luggage arranged in circle on the floor. I looked closely. Was there someone in there? I walked closer. It was AJ.

“What’s going on, babe?” I asked

“Oh. Im sorry I left you. I just needed some time alone. Bad meeting.”

“May I enter your fort here?”

“Yeah.” She looked like she had been crying.

I sat on the floor next to her, surrounded by luggage. She immediately grabbed me and buried her face in my shoulder. I held her tightly.

“Tell me what happened.”

“Zane Lancaster is an asshole.” She said as pulled her head up. “He wants me to be a full time valet. No more wrestling. I didn’t work this hard to be arm candy. Plus it means a pay cut.“

“That sucks. Is there anyway to avoid it? Like maybe if you talk to him one on one, make your case. I think you can be very persuasive.”

“No only misfits and weirdoes are susceptible to my charm. No offense.”

“None taken. Only because you are much weirder for liking me.”

“I am very upset right now so watch what you say, jerk.”

So of course, I hit the Button. I did it until she giggled and squirmed with delight. She turned her back to me and I put my arms around her waist as we sat among the luggage. Her eyes had dried now and she was smiling again.

“Just go talk to this guy and make your case. You have nothing to lose. And if being a valet is the worst thing that can happen to you, then you have a pretty good life. Either way, you still have me.”

“Darn it. Figured you would be gone already.”

“You can’t get rid of me that easy.” I started to get up off the floor.

“No don’t. Can we just stay here like this for a while? Im very comfortable.”

Yes very comfortable in my arms. My heart rejoiced.

“Sure, babe. Whatever you want.” I kissed her cheek.
