Cagesider Insider: My trip to Hell in a Cell and Monday Night Raw

WWE.com

A while back my buddies and I decided to make the trip from Orlando to Miami for Hell in a Cell (HIAC) and then back to see Raw the next night. The trip was awesome and despite what many think of the cards and the way they ended, we had a blast and saw some pretty cool things along the way. That being said it was my first trip to live events that I can actually recall; I went when I was five or six but don't remember too much from Nassau Coliseum.

I'll be short on the recaps because most of you saw/read both events but here's a cue on some of the inside stuff you guys didn't see and what we happened to find really cool. As always, you can use the comments for feedback on what you agree and don't agree with.

  • HELL IN THE CELL!

So for HIAC we decided to splurge and sit ringside. We sat about nine rows deep behind the announcers table and the atmosphere is what made this worth it. The seats themselves believe it or not weren't that good. I liked the idea, but unless you are sitting first two rows things get a little spotty when it comes to ringside action and everyone standing. I really enjoyed the PPV itself but had some gripes with the crowd and matches in general.

As far as the crowd went, I hate the people who chant Husky Harris, or the ones who have zero clue what is going on. I mean why spend money to come to an event when you're clueless? That being said we got lucky and sat with a mixed crowd. To our left were kids and their parents who loved Cena, behind me were some folks who didn't speak English but loved Alberto Del Rio and Cena Sucks chants, and of course the obligatory fan in front of me who rooted for the opposite of the crowd just to be a troll. I mean, let's be honest, NOBODY roots for Khali. NOBODY.

That match really bothered me, but I suppose that is a gripe for another day, as is the way Big E. Langston lost to Dean Ambrose. Seeing Fandango and Summer Rae was also mind boggling, but hey anytime I see Summer Rae i won't complain.

The PPV was an experience to take in but I did notice the crowd got into it in spurts. The start of the triple threat tag saw everyone sitting on hands despite it being the match of the night arguably. Also, Fandango is dead. Nobody in the crowd seemed to care. At all. We the people, however, is catching on really really well.

I was bummed CM Punk didn't throw Paul Heyman off the Cell structure but I realize my expectations were unrealistic. Of course the visual of a GTS followed by a trust fall off the cell through the table would have made my PPV. Also, Shawn Michaels missed Sweet Chin Music by about three feet live. The camera work on that was impressive because on the replays it looked like he hit it solid.

  • RAW

After that, we piled in the car and back to the 407 we headed. We sat upper deck for Raw and it turns out those seats were better. While we realized that lower bowl is probably the way to go, we enjoyed our upper deck seats because we weren't conflicted to watch the ring and titantron. We could focus on the ring and see EVERYTHING. Also, had a cool moment meeting Bob Backlund. That guy is a ninja. Nobody noticed him creep in and sit down. After about 10 minutes, I turned around and then looked at my friend and went "Oh shit, that's Bob Backlund." Another was my friend telling him "Bob, thank you for all you've done" and him replying "It's Mr. Backlund to you." He was a really cool guy to meet.

Had no problem with Raw, thought the show was great. The Superstars matches were Kofi Kingston vs. Santino Marella, which was hilarious, and Aksana vs. Naomi. Nothing spectacular to report. Some cool moments with CM Punk during commercial, and the dark promo with Triple H was hilarious.

After Raw went off the air, Triple H told the crowd "Show is lucky he left, I was just about to beat his ass." Crowd responded with a "bullshit" chant. he then proceeded to tell all of us to leave his arena. Nobody moved. He then told us we were all hired, and then fired us and told us to get the hell out again. He got into it with a rather large fan, calling him fat boy. The fat fan did the truffle shuffle. Pretty solid heeling by him and his wife, Stephanie, on the security guards and staff.

After Raw, it was cool to go to the loading dock and see who stopped to interact with us. One guy Screamed at Brad Maddox and Curtis Axel, reminding them they suck. Other than that, apparently JoJo and Bo Dallas have a thing going on as both left together, but the only people who stopped to sign and take pictures with the fans were Miz, Zack Ryder, and Darren Young. The others seemed to be pre-occupied or not interested.

Overall, it was an amazing trip. Great weekend of fun and wrestling. It was a solid first trip to live events and I can't wait until they come back to Florida for more shows.
