AJ Styles pinned Bully Ray to win the TNA heavyweight championship at tonight's (Sun., Oct. 20, 2013) Bound for Glory pay-per-view (PPV) event in San Diego, California, culminating a storyline more than a year in the making.
Oh and he's also a crazy person.
Styles, you see, sold his body out completely for this match, cheating death doing a springboard 360 off the top rope to a table on the outside that Ray vacated at the last minute. That meant AJ went crashing through it with ridiculous force, and it appeared as though he may have banged his head on the hard floor.
Either way, it was nuts.
Not long after, though, he did the same thing back in the ring. In fact, he took a couple big bumps the rest of the way, doing everything he could to get the mediocre match over with a few high spots mixed in with the usual awful TNA overbooking.
Aces and 8s made its presence felt with a choke slam from Knux and a hammer delivery from Garett Bischoff. Dixie Carter made an appearance late to give Bully a chair but that backfired and she stuck around to watch Styles win the belt, all while flailing wildly in complaint.
Styles is your new TNA heavyweight champion. As an aside, Hulk Hogan did not make his return here.
