TNA Tag Team Championship
James Storm and Gunner vs. ???
In a completely original move that no one has ever heard of any other company doing anytime ever, TNA will have their long-reigning Tag Team champs face off against competitors who have already competed in a multi-team match that will air for free before the pay-per-view (PPV).
The Road to Bound for Glory
Storm reinserted himself into the division that made him famous when he was cast in the role of special guest referee in the long-running issues between Bad Influence of Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian and the Dirty Heels, Austin Aries and the Cowboy's former Beer Money compatriot, Bobby Roode. When that unsurprisingly ended with Last Call Superkicks for A-Double and the Fallen Angel, James was thrust into the tag title scene without a partner.
He chose former Eric Bischoff strongman Gunner, essentially turning the Iraq war veteran face by virtue of the selection. The pair defeated Bad Influence, the Heels and then-champs Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez at Slammiversary to become the standard bearers of the division.
That was in June. Since that time, the pair has largely disappeared from television. They resurfaced in August for a mini-program against the Bro-Mans that included their only title defense and a six-person mixed tag, but otherwise have been relegated to the occasional backstage vignette or one-off non-title match designed to remind the audience that they still exist.
What's at stake?
That changes is San Diego on Sunday, October 20th. While it may not be clear who their opponents will be, they will have their second bout with the belts on the line at Bound for Glory.
Question is: whether or not it will be the start of a return to prominence for two men that the company has allegedly been high on at different times in the past? Or will their run be forgotten as being sandwiched in between runs for the Mexican-Americans, the long quest of Bad Influence to sit atop the division, or the rise of the Jersey boys?
We'll find out who they'll face as soon as they do Sunday night on Spike TV! Find out who leaves the PPV as champs right here at CSS!
