On this date in WWF history: The first-ever Monday Night Raw

Stay connected for news and updates

The very first episode of Monday Night Raw aired on this date in WWF history, forever changing the pro wrestling business.

On January 11, 1993, World Wrestling Federation (WWF) would change the pro wrestling business forever when it debuted its new flagship program, Monday Night Raw, live from the Grand Ballroom at the Manhattan Center Studios in New York, NY.

Here's what went down:

Crush defeated Bam Bam Bigelow by Disqualification (dark match)
Yokozuna (with Mr Fuji) defeated Koko B. Ware
The Steiner Brothers defeated The Executioners (Duane Gill & Barry Hardy)
Shawn Michaels (c) defeated Max Moon for the WWF Intercontinental Championship
The Undertaker (with Paul Bearer) defeated Damien Demento

Emceed by Vince McMahon, Rob Bartlett and "Macho Man" Randy Savage, the inaugural Raw had some pretty good matches, but for me, the best part of this show was watching Bobby "The Brain" Heenan try to "weasel" his way past Sean Mooney to try and gain access to the venue after getting replaced prior to the broadcast.

The first-ever Monday Night Raw:

Ah, good ol' Max Moon. Before we had the Internet to know the true Hollywood story.
