When Eve Torres pinned Kaitlyn clean in a singles match during last night's (Sept. 3, 2012) episode of Monday Night Raw, it made more than a few fans pause and wonder why.

After all, Kaitlyn won a battle royal on Aug. 20 to become the number one contender to the Diva's title held by Layla. So why give her that slot and then beat her clean?

According to a report from the Wrestling Observer, it's because she wasn't supposed to win that battle royal. Eve was. They just botched the finish.

From the Daily Update (subscription required):

Eve was supposed to win but missed the apron on a clothesline spot and landed on the floor. That was why there was confusion immediately afterwards and Layla had a look of shock on her face.

The report goes on to state that it's entirely possible Eve will either overtake Kaitlyn for the title shot against Layla at Night of Champions on Sept. 16 in Boston or simply be thrown in for a triple threat match. With Eve winning the Stars and Stripes NBC reality show that garnered three million viewers for the show's finale, she looks to be in line for another big push.

I'm not sure WWE fans care either way.

After the jump, you can check out the battle royal and see the botched ending for yourself.
