One week after returning to Monday Night Raw to declare his allegiance to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), in turn shunning The Alliance -- comprised of Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW) -- The Rock main evented Raw in a Street Fight against Shane McMahon, part owner of The Alliance, on this date in history (Aug. 6, 2001).
It's a solid if unspectacular match. They make up for McMahon's lack of ability with the gimmick match, the two brawling all around the arena. Shane also takes a few rough shots to help get the match over, all while Jim Ross and Paul Heyman work their magic on commentary.
And make no mistake, they were magic together ringside calling matches during this time.
The Rock goes over despite interference from Booker T, the WCW heavyweight champion, but the show ends with Booker taking control and setting up Rock on the announce table for McMahon to hit a huge flying elbow drop.
Quite the visual.
