Introducing the next Cageside Seats Pro Wrestling Tournament: Greatest Matches

CSS HEADER-small

The first ever Cageside Seats Pro Wrestling Tournament was such a smashing success we've decided to do another one. In the first, Stone Cold Steve Austin was crowned the greatest wrestler of all time after defeating Macho Man Randy Savage in the final.

It was an incredibly fun journey to get there, too, with plenty of interesting discussion, debate, arguments, controversies, theories, and everything in between.

In the immediate aftermath, many of you demanded another tournament, the sooner the better. We hinted at doing as much but didn't reveal full details. That's what we're going to do right now.

The next Cageside Seats Tournament will crown the greatest match of all time.

Already I can hear the collective thought: "How are you going to determine the 64 matches selected?"

That's where YOU come in. Yes, you. And you. You, too.

Follow me after the jump for more details.

Here's how we're going to do this:

Next Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, a thread will be posted at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT asking for nominations for matches to be included in the tournament. Any match is eligible from any time period between any two wrestlers. As long as it's classified as a match -- which includes battle royals, Royal Rumbles, and all other gimmick matches -- it's eligible for nomination.

The way we'll determine the 64 that make it through will be by recs.

For those of you unfamiliar with what a "rec" is, you can "rec" a comment by clicking the "action" button on a comment before clicking the "rec" button. "Rec" is short for "recommend," which is similar to the "like" button on Facebook. Essentially, it signifies that you agree with or like a comment posted by another member.

In this instance, it will mean you agree with the nominated match and feel it should be included in the field of 64.

The thread will stay open for a total of three days, at the end of which comments will close and recs tallied to determine which matches made the cut and which did not. This is also how seedings will be determined, although there is wiggle room assuming the amount of recs doesn't add up.

It should also be noted that if the nominations do not yield 64 matches, the remainder of the field will be filled in by the Cageside staff and seeded accordingly.

Match-ups will be dictated based on rec totals as well.

There you have it, Cagesiders.

Feel free to use this thread to give your thoughts on the next tournament and discuss possible matches you will be nominating next week. NOTE: THIS IS NOT THE NOMINATION THREAD. This is simply the thread to introduce the next tournament.

See you next Monday. Any questions will be answered in this thread.
