Hart-Bulldog
Undoubtedly one of the greatest matches of the past few decades, and possibly ever, took place on this date in history (Aug. 29, 1992) when Bret Hart defended the Intercontinental championship against British Bulldog in the main event of SummerSlam in front of a reported 80,355 fans at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
The event was taped on this date but aired days later on Aug. 31, 1992.
They built the match using family history and a great divide between the two sides but that's hardly important when considering the eventual outcome. Hart would later call this the greatest match of his career, and it's difficult to argue against that, though he's had too many incredible matches to count.
It's definitely the best match of Bulldog's career.
In a break from the norm, the match went on last instead of the WWF championship match between Macho Man Randy Savage and The Ultimate Warrior, which was also a pretty damn good match. It just couldn't compare to the headlining attraction.
The pop when Bulldog wins the belt is legendary. Watch it all go down after the jump.
