Here's video of Triple H doing his "retirement" speech from WWE Monday Night Raw last night (Aug. 27, 2012) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
There's already been great debate regarding how "The Game" handled himself here. On the one hand, there's an argument to be made that he was entirely too self-serving. On the other, isn't that what these speeches are for?
I think the real devil is in the details.
Had this been a legitimate retirement speech, it would have been fine. Well done, even. Sure, he milked it for all it was worth but if you're in a similar scenario after such a long career and this is your last promo, I would expect you to soak it all in while you still could.
The problem is we can almost be 100-percent certain that he's not retiring. In fact, he could be back before the end of the year, the month, even. He never really retired but he wanted us to treat him like he was. That struck a bad chord amongst many fans who have dealt with Triple H and his ego for so many years.
We've seen this story. We know how he can be. And, for the most part, we just don't want it.
