Back when Hulk Hogan thought he legitimately had a shot at being a movie star, he made a picture in conjunction with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) called No Holds Barred. Surely you've heard of it or seen it and if you haven't, it was recently digitally remastered and released on DVD and Blu Ray just last month, mostly as a way for WWE to poke fun at The Hulkster.
It's not like there wasn't plenty of material.
The chief antagonist in the film was a character named Zeus, played by Tiny Lister (who you probably know as Deebo from the Ice Cube directed Friday series). Because he was a monster of a man with an imposing look, Vince McMahon saw fit to help promote the movie by running an angle between Zeus and Hogan on WWF television.
This all started with a tag team match on this date in history (Aug. 28, 1989) when Hogan teamed up with chief lackey Brutus Beefcake against the team of Zeus and Macho Man Randy Savage.
The match itself is nothing to write home about, as was the feud, but the crowd was hot and it followed the tried and true formula at the time of simply finding a monster heel for Hulkamania to run wild over, which is exactly what happened.
Watch it go down after the jump.
Also on this date in history: Records are set at "The Big Event" in Toronto
