The World Wrestling Federation (WWF) held a SummerSlam event in three separate years on this date in history (Aug. 27) with SummerSlam 1990, SummerSlam 1995, and SummerSlam 2000.
And all three, exactly five years apart, featured the same general theme -- a match on the undercard stole the show.
SummerSlam 1990 featured a main event of The Ultimate Warrior vs. Rick Rude in a steel cage match for the WWF championship. It was alright, but earlier in the evening, The Hart Foundation won the tag team titles from Demolition in a two out of three falls match that was far superior.
SummerSlam 1995 was headlined by one of the worst main events in history, as Diesel, during his ill-fated run as champion, went over on King Mabel. The show might as well have ended with the match before it however, when Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon had yet another classic ladder match just a few months removed from their first.
SummerSlam 2000 featured a damn good main event with The Rock defending his WWF championship against Kurt Angle and Triple H. It couldn't compare to the Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match that happened earlier in the night, though. Edge and Christian defeated The Dudley Boyz and The Hardy Boyz to retain the belts in a spotfest that redefined that style of match.
Watch those three amazing matches after the jump.
