Welcome to another edition of Wrestler Wrankings™, your weekly scorekeeper for the sport of professional wrestling.
SummerSlam bestowed its majesty on wrestling fans this week and though nuptials didn't turn to napalm, it was a fun show with superior athleticism taking center stage. Most importantly for fans of pure sport, a whopping 66 Wrankings points were doled out. Though four of them were flushed down the Brock Lesnar toilet, a lot of truly meaningful wrestling matches took place.
Of particular interest were the top two athletes in the Wrankings, World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus and WWE Champion CM Punk, both emerging. This, coupled with the third place Ryback not competing at SummerSlam, formed a significant rift between the two world champions and the rest of WWE. Even the aforementioned Ryback, on the roll of a lifetime against bafflingly inferior competition, is unable to keep pace. More impressive is Alberto Del Rio hanging tough with 50 Wrankings points while not holding any title and facing a legitimate slate of opponents.
The next opportunity at double points presents itself at November's Survivor Series. Meanwhile, the rest of the roster will be hard pressed to compete with Punk and Sheamus so long as they maintain their stranglehold on that sacred gold.
