This past weekend it was reported that The Pope, D'Angelo Dinero, injured his shoulder and will be out for several months. That's a problem for Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling because he's a part of this year's Bound for Glory (BFG) Series.
Even if he's been at the bottom the entire time and only has seven points.
The plan for this year's Series was to legitimize it by using a round robin format in which each wrestler would have at least one match against every other wrestler and whoever had the most points at the end got the title shot. They switched it up a bit with the Final Four concept for the No Surrender pay-per-view (PPV) but the logic is still sound.
Unfortunately, Dinero's injury throws a monkey wrench into those plans because he still has three matches left. We wondered how TNA would handle it and now we have an answer ... kind of:
This news has caused Impact Wrestling to officially eliminate Dinero from the remainder of the 2012 BFG Series! In this year's format for the BFG Series, every wrestler was scheduled to face everyone in the tournament. Dinero still had three matches left in the series vs. AJ Styles, Rob Van Dam and Robbie E!
ImpactWrestling.com has learned that Sting will be making a decision regarding this situation and those matches on Thursday's Impact Wrestling Live on Spike TV at 8/7c.
Robbie E is a non-factor, as he has even less points than Dinero with just five, but AJ Styles and Rob Van Dam are right in the thick of it at the top. It's absolutely the right call for TNA to tease the announcement and pay it off on Impact tomorrow night, and we'll of course be covering it live.
Any guesses as to what they'll do?
