Last night (Aug. 20, 2012) on Monday Night RAW, there was a number one contender's battle royal for the WWE Diva's championship. Some familiar names laced up their boots and fought for the right to face current champion Layla for the title. Kaitlyn ultimately beat out fellow divas Alicia Fox, Natalya, Eve, Aksana, Rosa, and Tamina.
However, if you go back and look at the graphic presented before the match, both Kelly Kelly and Beth Phoenix were advertised. With both being perennial players in the Diva's title hunt, it was strange not seeing the two in-ring for the free-for-all.
This strange situation was further explained by PW Insider:
A few readers asked why Beth Phoenix and Kelly Kelly didn't appear on Raw after being featured in the graphic for the Divas Battle Royal. That is a good question, but a better question may be why they were even featured on the graphic, as neither were even backstage at the taping.
With Kelly being on a part-time appearance schedule with the company, this isn't terribly shocking for her to have not appeared at the show.
Phoenix's case is a little more curious.
The "Glamazon" was to perform during next week's four show stint in Australia, with her name scheduled to appear as recently as last week on WWE.com. According to the site today, however, she is no longer headed for the "Land Down Under," as her name has been removed from all Australian appearances.
There is no official word on the reasons for Phoenix's cancellations, but we'll keep you posted as it breaks.
