CM Punk may think wrestling fans don't know the meaning behind words like "face" or "heel," but I know a rulebreaker turn when I see one and I saw one last night.
For the second time in the past several weeks, the WWE Champion zeroed in on Jerry "The King" Lawler" and his commentary, lambasting him for remarks the Memphis legend has made about Punk.
Lawler was derided for saying Punk had turned his back on the WWE Universe and last night, the champ demanded an apology. He was so focused on getting one, in fact, not even a John Cena interruption would keep "The Straight Edge Superstar" from forgetting his original intention.
Well, he got the apology and responded with a boot upside "The King's" head.
While it's true Lawler is years removed from active competition, he still slaps on the singlet from time to time. He's done just that a handful of times over the past few years.
Will he do it again next week on Raw?
With Night of Champions nearly a month away, they have to keep Punk occupied with something and weeks after week of confrontations with Cena just isn't going to cut the mustard.
Attacking a defenseless man is bad enough but imagine the heat the champion would get if he stepped inside the ring against Lawler and completely humiliated him. The WWE Universe loves "The King" -- I don't know why -- so seeing him in that position would only galvanize the fanbase towards hating Punk even more.
Punk vs. The King?
What do you think, Cagesiders?
