So TNA picked Olive Oyl from the Popeye Ride at Universal Studios to play Claire Lynch. They sure have an eye for acting talent! Photo via cdn0.sbnation.com.
For all the talk about how TNA's writing has turned a corner, the Claire Lynch angle is the prime example that the TNA creative team, even without Vince Russo, can still venture into the sublimely ridiculous and nonsensical.
The big payoff to the heavily alleged affair between AJ Styles and Dixie Carter was that they weren't getting jiggy with each other, oh no, but were working together to help a drug addict they had befriended to get clean and had wanted to keep it quiet before Christopher Daniels stuck his big nose in. If that was not bad enough, Lynch turned out to be a psycho who either date-raped Styles resulting in becoming pregnant with his child or was a pathological liar. Maybe a talented performer could have turned this chicken shit into chicken salad, but Lynch turned out to be a much worse actress than most of the wrestlers. This is not at all surprising when the main reason she got the job was that she lived in Orlando and they would thus save on air fares by using her. As they say, if you pay peanuts, then you end up with monkeys.
Making TNA's choice of actress look even worse with the benefit of hindsight is that Lynch has apparently left the company with little notice, according to Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer on Sunday's subscriber only Wrestling Observer Radio show. Consequently, her storyline with Styles, Daniels and Kazarian will be wrapped up this coming week, before it was supposed to end.
A bizarre rumour is going round backstage that the woman playing Lynch didn't like her real name, Julia Reilly, being leaked by a low rent wrestling message board, perhaps feeling that being on a rasslin' show was beneath her image, and had taken down her YouTube page and personal website in response to this. However, the straw that broke the camel's back and caused her to quit though, was supposedly the public revelation that she moonlights as Olive Oyl at the Popeye Ride at Universal Studios.
You would think she would appreciate her new found fame!
