Precap to the August 17, 2012 episode of SmackDown or, the one before SummerSlam

Perhaps Dolph Ziggler and Chris Jericho should just kiss and make up?

Sheamus! Del Rio! Booker! Retracted Title Shots! World Heavyweight Championship!

After last week's (Aug. 10) SmackDown where Alberto Del Rio hired a bunch of thugs dressed as police officers (but they weren't actually cops!), Booker T cancelled the title match at SummerSlam. However, Del Rio informed us that he has signed a contract and that he will be competing for the World Heavyweight Championship. It seems very unlikely for the WWE to switch participants this close to SummerSlam.

Which raises the question -- why even run this angle?

On top of that, it's strange how quiet Sheamus has been through this. It was his action of stealing and wrecking Del Rio's car that instigated this mess. He was the one who had gotten attacked by the goons. But he hasn't said a single word either way. For a man who likes to fight and fight, you would think Sheamus would have welcomed the challenge and demanded justice done by his own hands. That's part of "The Great White's" appeal to the kids, right? He is able to overcome the odds and beat down the bullies. It's odd that one of the top babyfaces has been pushed aside the past few weeks.

No matter, though! Tonight we find out if Booker has the cojones to actually back up his threat, or back down to "The Mexican Aristocrat." Does Del Rio have a few more tricks up his sleeve, or has he lost his last chance at gold?

The rest of the show after the jump.

Jericho! Ziggler! Y2J Returns! Mouthing Off! Catchphrases!

With his time coming to a close, Chris Jericho may be appearing on his last SmackDown for a while. While there is still much debate as to the success of his return, Y2J has certainly provided his fair share of entertaining moments in the eight months he's been back. His recent storyline with Dolph Ziggler has been nothing but money. Ziggler can use the rub after suffering a few losses to CM Punk and Sheamus. If "Mr. Money in the Bank" is indeed going to have a run with the World Heavyweight Championship, looking strong over Jericho will certainly help legitimize him.

As mentioned above, this could very well be Jericho's last appearance on the "Blue Brand." We don't know exactly when he will be coming back, or if it is even in the cards that he does at all. Hopefully he will get a fitting end deserving of such a great entertainer.

Eve! Kaitlyn! Booker's! Personal! Assistant!

Tonight Eve Torres will face off against Kaitlyn to determine who will be Booker T's new assistant. I, for one, welcome Eve back into the WWE. I'm sure she's been having fun on NBC's Stars Earn Their Strips, but she was excellent in her role under John Laurinaitis. She was the crafty, manipulating fem fatal who uses her stunning looks and quick wits to rise to the top. Yeah, she suffered a setback when Johnny Ace got canned. But she's too strong to be kept down!

On the other hand, it's always nice to see Kaitlyn get some screen time. It's a shame that the WWE hasn't really pushed her, but the Divas Champion herself Layla is hardly ever on TV. If they are going to use positions of authority to get female wresters on air, then I'm okay with that. Better than some of the other options they have used (see: Natalya's gas attack).

Whoever wins, Booker T's administration is sure shaking up to be pretty exciting. You have the "Five Time, Five Time, Five Time, Five Time, Five Time WCW World Heavyweight Champion" at the helm, with "Mr. Tag Team" himself Teddy Long as the number two. Add in either Eve or Kaitlyn, and that's leadership I can believe in.
