It took months for WWE to finally do something meaningful in the feud between Triple H and Brock Lesnar leading to their match at Summerslam this Sun., Aug. 19, 2012, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, but last night's episode of Monday Night Raw featured the perfect lead in to the mega main event.
Lesnar breaking Shawn Michaels' arm.
This wasn't unexpected. In fact, we're surprised it's taken this long, as Michaels was always the perfect guy to come in, take a beating to build heat for the match, and bail. It builds up Lesnar without sacrificing Triple H. It's perfect.
And while the "Heartbreak Kid" was slightly less than convincing, his performance was passable, doing its job of getting heat on Lesnar, who left the arena to "you suck" chants from the crowd in Dallas, Texas.
The real star of the segment, though, is Paul Heyman. Brought in to be Lesnar's mouthpiece and representative (so as not to burn through too many of Brock's contracted dates), Heyman has been spectacular in adding just the right amount of emotion to any given situation. In last night's case, his shock and disbelief at Lesnar actually breaking Michaels' arm served to get the act over just as much as Michaels writhing in the ring selling it.
Considering how underwhelming this feud has been, it was nice to see a legitimate angle involving all the major stars on the go home Raw to Summerslam this weekend. I'm genuinely looking forward to the match now.
How about you?
