WWE Raw results and live blog for July 9: The Money in the Bank go home show

MITB poster

WWE Monday Night Raw comes waltzing back into our lives tonight (July 9, 2012) from the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, and features the go home show to the Money in the Bank pay-per-view (PPV) this Sunday night in Phoenix, Arizona.

That means closing angles for all the major storylines/matches headed into the show. AJ is the special guest referee for the WWE championship match pitting CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan and no doubt they've got something in store for her.

After all, she's a modern day Miss Elizabeth.

This is also the last chance to add a surprise entrant in the Raw/WWE title MITB ladder match, which still has just four competitors -- John Cena, Chris Jericho, Kane, and Big Show. The company website teased as much recently but that doesn't necessary mean much of anything.

I guess that's why we should watch.

Alberto Del Rio has been rolling along nicely for weeks leading up to his singles match for the world heavyweight championship against Sheamus. Can he keep looking strong again tonight? We'll see.

All that and more.

Raw starts at 9 p.m. ET on USA, so be sure to make your way back here to chat with all your favorite Cagesiders during the show. It's always a fun time. Raw live blog after the jump.

Geno here.

Broadcast is live.

Naturally, we begin with a video replay of all the events with Punk, Bryan, and AJ from the past week.

And wouldn't you know it, AJ is out first, skipping along to the ring with mic already in hand.

Before she can start talking, YES! chants ring out.

She starts by saying this Sunday night, she'll be the special guest referee in the WWE championship match. And she realizes that her actions can greatly affect the outcome. That thought is overwhelming and very emotional.

Off course they would give her the what chant.

She asks for the fans to help her welcome WWE Champion CM Punk.

"Okay, AJ, I'm here. What is this all about?"

AJ says Punk showed his true feelings for her on Smackdown when he called her mentally unstable and in need of professional help. Well, she's not, she says. She's in full control of all of her mental faculties at all times.

She starts and stops saying multiple times that no one has ever cared about her the way Punk did on Smackdown, showing passion and concern for her. And when she kissed him, she knew it.

"I knew what I had to do."

Some kid shouts "BEST IN THE WORLD" and it's picked up loud and clear. That was awesome.

She continues by saying Punk's eyes send love straight into her heart. He fills her up with passion and desire.

"In essence, you turn me on."

It's getting hot in here, Cagesiders. A little too hot.

She says again she knows what she has to do. Then she gets down on bended knee. Oh dear god. She's smiling all big while Punk looks terribly uncomfortable.

"CM Punk ... will you marry me?"

The crowd is screaming, at a fever pitch. A lot of YES! chants.

Daniel Bryan comes running down the ramp screaming "NO!"

He pleads with AJ to stop this nonsense because she doesn't know what she's getting herself into. Punk only cares about the title and he only cares about her being special guest referee.

Punk says Bryan doesn't know shit about how he really feels about AJ so he needs to shut his mouth.

Bryan tells him, fine, then say "I do" and show us all how you really feel.

Punk says nothing and Bryan tells AJ he only sees her as a special referee. He sees her as a special person.

Oh, that's a genius line.

Bryan says when he woke up today, he had no intention of stopping a proposal -- he intended to make one.

Now he's down on bended knee.

Punk is fucking shocked.

Bryan asks AJ to marry him.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, what a load of crap."

Punk calls Bryan out and says he obviously didn't want to do this today because he doesn't have a ring. Bryan says the ring is in the back.

So money.

Punk tells AJ he wants to go to the back and talk it out and Bryan tells him not to talk to his future wife that way.

Oh, this is the best.

They start arguing and oh dear god, we hear the familiar chime of the Anonymous Raw General Manager. Michael Cole gets up and goes to the laptop.

"Surprise, I'm back, and I'm running Raw tonight."

Cole goes on to say CM Punk and AJ are a good couple and so he's matching them together for a mixed tag match against Bryan and Eve.

Bryan flips his lid and complains loudly with a ton of "NO" chants.

AJ comes back in and says everyone just needs some time to think because everyone is caught off guard. But she's really happy they're having their match tonight because she believes that everything happens for a reason. And she has a feeling that she's going to walk out of the arena with her future husband.

Cut the mic, this segment is over, that was awesome.

Sheamus vs. Jack Swagger -- We don't even see Swagger's entrance and once again, Michael Cole dogs him by saying he's in the midst of a rough patch.

Sheamus catches Swagger coming off the ropes and hits White Noise. It looks like he's already getting ready for the Brogue Kick.

1, 2, 3, good night.

Alberto Del Rio comes on the titantron and congratulates Sheamus for his win. But remember, Jack Swagger is no Del Rio and he need only remember Smackdown last week to know what ADR is capable of.

And this Sunday night, he's going to take the world heavyweight championship.

Del Rio gets in his car to drive away, so Sheamus turns around and in a fit of rage, hits Swagger with another Brogue Kick.

Damn, Sheamus, the dude just got back up. Big bully.

Oh wait, he's a WWE babyface.

Santino Marella is backstage chatting it up with Zack Ryder.

Ryder says he's going to be running "Zackdown" this week and it's going to be sick.

Marella says he heard the Anonymous Raw General Manager is apparently in the building tonight and he's going to make it his personal mission to find out who it is.

He puts his Sherlock Holmes gear on and begins his quest.

Michael Cole announces The Rock coming back to Raw on the 1,000th episode and therefore we miss out on what's happening in the ring.

Dolph Ziggler and Tensai vs. Christian and Tyson Kidd -- From the looks of it, and I'm coming in late, is Ziggler and Christian went back and forth, Tensai tagged in and he took care of business to get the pinfall.

After the match, Tensai attacked and obliterated Kidd. While he did so, Vickie checked him out and looked impressed by him.

We go ringside for Cole and Lawler to argue and Cole ends up knocking a water all over Lawler.

Jerry gets pissed and almost bops him but the chime comes in and Cole goes to read the laptop to see what the Anonymous GM wants.

Cole refuses to read the laptop. Lawler gets up and reads it and says the two are booked in a WrestleMania rematch.

They bicker once again and another message comes in. The Anonymous GM says he'll let the fans vote on this by going to WWE.com and voting yes or no.

Brodus Clay vs. Drew McIntyre -- While Clay was doing his entrance, McIntyre had a chair pulled up with his feet up resting on the announce table. Once the music stopped, he got up and asked why everyone is cheering because "it's the same silly dance every week."

McIntyre looks okay early, ducking a splash in the corner before going up top for some high flying offense. But as he sailed through the air, he was met with the spiked hair headbutt.

Dino Drop splash and that does it for that.

We now rejoin Santino Marella. He runs into Chris Jericho and accuses him of being the Anonymous GM.

Jericho says he hates that computer and then accuses Marella of being the Anonymous GM. Santino contemplates whether or not that's true then realizes what's happening and gets pissed and leaves.

Big Show comes into the picture, and Jericho says they have a chance to weaken Kane and John Cena tonight in their tag team match.

Show cuts him off before he can get too far in and says some of the most embarrassing moments of his career came while he was in JeriShow, their tag team from years ago. So instead of plotting, planning, and scheming, Show tells Jericho if he stays out of his way tonight, Show won't knock him out.

Sounds good.

Time for John Cena close to the top of the hour here.

He starts in and says he's super excited about stuff and blah, blah. He'll be in the Money in the Bank Ladder match on Sunday night and now he needs to put it over in the goofy way only he knows how.

He's literally not saying anything. At all. He'll win Money in the Bank. That's it.

Oh, now he promises to stop Big Show with his hand.

That was promise one. Promise two is he will do whatever he has to to whoever he has to to win Money in the Bank. Tells everyone to tweet it or post about it or tout it, whatever.

I guess we're getting the tag match now.

Thankfully, Cole acknowledges that Kane and Cena had huge issues earlier this year, including an Ambulance match at Elimination Chamber.

Kane and John Cena vs. Big Show and Chris Jericho -- Cena and Jericho start. Some chain wrestling before Cena runs the ropes and hits a shoulder block, then a running bulldog. That sends Jericho out, who tags Show in despite some arguing.

They circle each other like boxers with their dukes up. Cena hits a few body shots before Show grabs him for a choke slam. Cena gets out and runs over to tag Kane in.

Now the big men tie up. Show puts him into the corner and then tries to bludgeon him with his lunch boxes but Kane moves out of the way and deals some damage of his own. Once he goes for the Irish Whip, Show reverses and clotheslines him in the corner to gain control.

Just like that.

Kane gets sent to the outside and Show distracts the referee long enough for Jericho to get a big shot in. The babyfaces take over once Jericho tags in and runs into a right hand. Cena tags in and gets a fisherman's suplex that gets a two count.

Jericho sends Cena into the ropes and then distracts the referee so Show can kick Cena in the back. JeriShow is in fine form tonight, it appears.

Back from commercial break and Show is working over Cena. He puts Cena in the corner and hushes the crowd so we can hear the sickening slap when he hits him with a chop to his chest. Cena slips away from the next one and tries to pick Show up but ends up collapsing underneath him.

Note: I had to step out for a minute, sorry for the break up in coverage.

The come back from break and Kane is reversing a bulldog from Jericho into a sideways slam. Kane gets a hot tag to Cena off it into the five moves of doom.

Cena gets the Five Knuckle Shuffle and then dropkicks Show off the apron. He then reverses the Walls of Jericho into an Attitude Adjustment that would have gotten the three count had Show not pulled him out.

And that's the disqualification.

Show proceeds to lay Cena out and then Kane before going under the ring and breaking out the ladders. Naturally, we need a preview to this Sunday night.

Show drills Jericho and Lawler acts shocked that he just did that to his own partner. Oh, King. You silly bastard.

The assault continues until Cena shows up with a ladder of his own and takes out Show. Right after doing so, he hoists the ladder above his head.

Backstage and Punk is warming up. Eve shows up and says she wishes him good luck. He says good luck to her too ... getting all that spray tanner off.

Ba dum chi.

Eve didn't mean anything about the match; she meant good luck dealing with AJ. She proceeds to apologize to Punk for being overshadowed during his entire run as champion. It must be hard for him to be overlooked for The Rock, John Cena, Brock Lesnar; but AJ too?

It must be emasculating.

She then bails and he looks pissed.

Santino runs into Great Khali in the bank and they have a short and unfunny segment.

I guess we're getting one more entrant into the Smackdown/World heavyweight championship Money in the Bank Ladder match because a qualifying match is up next. This will bring the total to eight.

Sin Cara vs. Heath Slater -- Maybe this week they plan to have a returning legend cost Slater the match?

Either way, he looks good early, in control with a slam and a sleeper hold. Sin Cara comes back with kicks and then a fancy flippy armdrag. He hits La Mistica and that gets the win.

He's in to the MITB Ladder match.

Slater gets on the mic after Sin Cara leaves and he says this isn't fair. He's a future champion and he wants to prove it by beating a former champion.

Send someone out.

Here comes Bob Backlund. He looks pretty good for how old the guy is.

Nothing happens at all and the fans chant "You still got it."

Backlund goes to shake his hand and Slater kicks him. He knocks him down but when Backlund gets back up, he locks in the Crossface Chickenwing. Slater taps that's that.

Michael Cole pops up and says it's time for the results to the poll on whether or not there should be a match between Cole and Lawler tonight.

Oh god. 75-percent say yes to just 25-percent saying no.

"How dare you," Cole tells the fans.

As he's chiding them, they go to commercial.

Booker T and Josh Matthews are out ringside to commentate during the match between Cole and Lawler. Oh hell no, they don't even get into wrestling gear.

Lawler looks like he should be at a UFC event and Cole is wearing a suit sans jacket.

Cole tries to bail out of the ring but Booker throws him back in.

Lawler picks Cole up and starts spinning around with Cole on his shoulders. After he's done, he pins him for the three count and the crappy match is over.

Maybe not.

The Anonymous GM says because Booker T interfered, he's reversing the decision and Cole is the rightful winner.

Santino's music hits and he says he's come to the conclusion that the Anonymous GM is under the ring.

The Anonymous GM chimes in and says that's not true.

Marella acts like he's going to go under the ring but he's grabbed by someone and drug under first. Lawler jumps up to help him and as he pulls him out, Hornswoggle comes out too, with a laptop.

Oh, WWE. You terribly uncreative idiots.

Hornswoggle is revealed as the Anonymous Raw General Manager. He kicks everyone before bailing to the back to no heat from the crowd.

Main event time.

Eve and Daniel Bryan vs. AJ and CM Punk -- Bryan starts the match with Punk and takes control not long in with kicks in the corner. YES kicks, of course. Punk gets back with a clothesline and AJ tags herself in using Punk's back.

In comes Eve, per the rules, and she gets the better of Even with a kick. AJ runs the ropes and ducks under before a spear. She goes crazy on top but Eve gets back with more kicks and a spear of her own.

They aren't very well coordinated but it's not like they've worked together a ton.

Eve slams AJ down and tries a front flip but AJ gets her legs up for the counter. Punches and kicks from AJ before a big clothesline in the corner. Spinning wheel kick from AJ leads to a two count.

Eve battles back just enough to make a tag to Bryan. Except Bryan backs off and refuses the tag. This leads to AJ rolling Eve up to get the win.

AJ hugs Punk after the win. Bryan climbs in the ring and says he just proved that she means more to him than any match.

"Listen to me. Why don't you and I leave right now and let's go get married?"

He opens the ropes for her but she's hesitant, as expected.

Punk picks up the microphone and says he's not going to blatantly try to use her and lie to her to hold on to the WWE title. That's what Bryan is doing. He only wants to marry her because he thinks it will lead to his winning the WWE championship.

Punk says he's going to lay it all on the line and he doesn't care if it costs him his match at Money in the Bank and, in turn, his title. But he's not going to marry her. And if that hurts her then he's sorry but at least he cares enough to tell her the truth.

She starts crying, or trying to muster up some tears.

She goes to him and nods her head before slapping him hard across the face.

Bryan -- "AJ, come home. Come home, AJ." With a big nod and smile. "I'm the one who cares about you."

She smiles back and goes to open her arms to him but instead slaps him just as hard across the face.

She then does the YES! chant along with the crowd, who are absolutely loving this.

Off she skips.

Fade to black.
