Big Show has managed to find himself in yet another major match, this time for the WWE championship at Summerslam opposite CM Punk and John Cena.
WWE will hold its 25th edition of its annual summer time extravaganza, Summerslam, on Sun., Aug. 19, 2012, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, and with just two weeks to go until showtime, the match card is starting to fill out.
Just last night (July 30) on episode 1,001 of Monday Night Raw, a WWE championship match was booked by new General Manager AJ Lee, as CM Punk will defend his title against both John Cena and Big Show in a triple threat match.
It's a solid booking decision if only because it makes sense within the story arc. Cena failed to cash in his Money in the Bank contract last week thanks to interference from Show, who still isn't pleased with Cena having bested him at every turn during their feud over the past few months.
Punk, meanwhile, is in the midst of trying to earn the respect he feels he deserves for being the WWE champion while Cena is chasing the title but trying to tie up the loose end with Show while doing so.
See? It all makes sense. Still, it's surprising that WWE has remained this committed to Big Show for such a sustained period of time. There likely won't be a title run in his future but he's hovering near the top of the card at all times.
You take what you can get, I guess.
Despite Punk's quest to bring more respect to the WWE championship, this triple threat match won't be the main event of the show. That honor goes to Triple H and his grudge match against Brock Lesnar.
No other matches have been announced for the card at this time.
