Wrestler Wrankings: 2012-2013 Season, Week 17

Wrankingslogo_medium

The following facts are true:

(A) The Miz is back.

(B) The Miz is back and he's somehow automatically inserted into the Money in the Bank ladder match.

(C) The Miz is back and he's received a shot at gold on the biggest episode of RAW ever.

(D) The Miz is back and he's the new Intercontinental Champion.

(E) The Miz is back and he's not only won the Intercontinental Championship, but he also defeated the former champion again, thus exhausting the mandatory rematch clause.

As a journalist and commentator, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to tell you to feel about the above premises, but I'll try to break it down for you.

  • I like the Miz so I am totally happy with (A). We could use all the good wrestlers that we can get in the WWE.
  • I very much enjoy and respect his WWE title win and reign from a couple years back, so I am fine with (B). It was, after all, a special attraction "former champions only" showcase.
  • I think the Miz is a capable grappler with a reliable, if unspectacular, repertoire of moves. So, I fully think that (D) and (E) are very plausible.
  • That leaves us with (C). Did the Miz deserve this opportunity? Well, he looked strong against a tough field at Money in the Bank. Besides that, he hadn't wrestled in months. Further still, he wasn't even performing all that well before his hiatus. (On April 30, Miz reached 5.5 Wrankings points while first place Mark Henry already had 16.)

What does this all mean? Let's face it, Christian has been a sheltered Intercontinental champion. He defended the belt exactly one time before RAW 1000 (vs. Cody Rhodes). It is for that reason that the official stance of Wrestler Wrankings is that The Miz was as entitled as anyone else to a shot; given his status as a former long time world champion and since no one else has stepped forward in the last 6 weeks.

Long live the Miz as Intercontinental Champion! He already owns as many title defenses as Christian. May he have many more.
