This past Monday's (July 23, 2012) episode of WWE Raw was the historic 1,000th show, which featured a ton of nostalgia, a few big matches set up for next year, and a bit of advancement in various storylines that affect the Smackdown brand.
That includes The Miz winning the Intercontinental championship from Christian. They'll be in action against each other this coming Friday night in a rematch for the strap.
Dolph Ziggler also cost his team a tag team match by popping Chris Jericho to continue their budding feud. That will be addressed on Smackdown as well.
The big news, however, is that a new number one contender will be crowned for the world heavyweight championship.
Find out exactly what went down, courtesy of PWTorch.com, after the jump.
-- Christian invoked his rematch clause immediately in an attempt to regain the Intercontinental championship he lost to The Miz on Raw. It didn't happen, though. Miz pinned Christian with a schoolboy in what was described as a good match.
-- Ryback def. Jinder Mahal via count out. From the sounds of it, they continued the theme of Ryback getting beaten on during matches just to come back in the end. Except this time, Mahal just took off and left the match. This sounds terrible.
-- Sheamus def. Cody Rhodes. Dolph Ziggler showed up after the match to once again tease cashing in the Money in the Bank contract but ultimately decided not to. What happened next sounds like they have a great plan to get Ziggler over. Chris Jericho came out to attack him, sending him in the ring. There, Sheamus hit him with a Brogue Kick and Jericho hit him with the Codebreaker. Yep.
-- Antonio Cesaro def. Santino Marella via being awesome. You know, or something like that.
-- Damien Sandow def. Yoshi Tatsu. See just above.
-- Alberto Del Rio def. Rey Mysterio, Kane and Daniel Bryan. Del Rio got the pin after Mysterio hit the 619 on Bryan and Ricardo Rodriguez interfered. This isn't altogether surprising but the Sheamus vs. Del Rio feud feels a bit tired already.
There's the show, Cagesiders. Thoughts?
