CM Punk's hatred of rude, inconsiderate fans and having a zero tolerance attitude to such behaviour has been well documented. It was perhaps best described by Luiz Gomez of the Chicago Tribune in a profile piece about Punk in late March:
"I can be pretty incognito," Punk says of getting recognized on the train. "I'll have my hood up and hands in my pocket.... It doesn't stop a lot of people. They'll talk to me for a while, and I'll stare at them for a while (with headphones on), and I'll say, 'I didn't hear a word you just said.'"...
Punk can come off as an unapologetic, walking "do not disturb" sign when he isn't working. He's been known to vent about fans who don't respect his privacy - specifically the ones who tap him on the shoulder when he's checking in at the airport or the ones who take off his headphones to get his attention - and has laid into autograph hounds with binders full of photos who he feels are trying to make money off of him.
According to f4wonline.com, there was a similar incident this Sunday at St. Louis Airport before tonight's 1000th episode of Raw.
CM Punk's brusque, take no nonsense attitude, likely caused what should have been a simple turndown of a rude fan's request for an autograph into a small scene. Another fan then started yelling at Punk and the argument ended with Punk throwing the fan's autograph book into a garbage can, which led to the airport police being called in to intervene, much to Punk's chagrin.
Unsurprisingly, Punk tackled the subject via Twitter in an unrepentant manner:
"@Feel_My_Burner: @CMPunk Get bombarded at the airport?" One person ruins it for everybody. Sorry y'all.
This is for all the respectful fans I saw at the airport. Right on. Thanks.
"@cowboyjwk: @CMPunk you're becoming Mr. Big Head." Nah. Just don't like rude people.
Man, you guys seriously go from fan mode to creepy mode to psycho mode sometimes.. #StLouis
And that one person ruins it for everyone else most of the times. #StLouis
Of course, their takes are biased and maybe Punk could have handled the situation differently so that this didn't become newsworthy.
The timing of the incident is interesting though with rumours that Punk is turning heel tonight. That's probably just a complete coincidence, but it would be the perfect opportunity to take advantage of something unexpected occurring in real-life and weaving it into the storylines as a justification for Punk to bury the fans.
