Heading into tonight's (July 23, 2012) 1,000th episode of WWE Monday Night Raw, anticipation is high for the various changes the company has promised to make. We'll see a lot of returning stars from yesteryear, sure, but they'll be gone next week and we'll be left with the "game changing" ideas the promotion will be implementing tonight.
The new social media initiative, #RawActive, is one of them. Fans will get to send in Tout videos that will play on Raw, as well as vote on polls to determine matches for later in the night. Or something like that. We still can't be sure until they actually roll it out. They've also already rolled out a new logo.
Another question, although seemingly less important, is the status of the Raw theme song. Nickleback has been playing the show in since 2009 and with such a historic episode upon us, it would seem the right time to debut something new. Some are speculating that's exactly what's going to happen. International Object noted that in its video playlist commemorating Raw's opening theme songs throughout the years, the current theme is shown as running from 2009-2012 instead of 2009-present.
That seems to indicate a change is coming. If if does, it may not be tonight.
That's because WWE recently announced that Outasight's hit single, Tonight is the Night, will serve as the official theme song of Raw 1,000. From the press release:
WWE today announced Outasight's chart-topping single "Tonight Is The Night" as the official theme song of its 1000th episode of Monday Night Raw. The song will be integrated into the telecast tonight at 8/7C on USA Network.
It's a catchy song but is it fit to open Raw every week from now until they decide enough is enough and it's time for a change? Either way, all signs seem to be pointing toward the end of Nickelback on Monday Night Raw.
That's reason to celebrate, Cagesiders.
