One of the reasons for starting the Smark's Shoot Standings (S3) was to gather data to back up an observation - the modern wrestling fan rapidly cycles through their enthusiasm for performers. Whether it be flashes in the pan like Ken Kennedy/Anderson and The Miz or all-time greats like Hulk Hogan and The Rock, the wrestler we love today is often a guy that six months later we're wishing would leave the business. The short history of the S3 has seen three different people have extending runs at the top of the list, only to later drift down or off the chart.
YOU Smarks certainly haven't turned on Daniel Bryan, but based on a small sample, we're seeing that the phenomenon does occur. But why? The most obvious answer seems to be booking, but there has to be more to it than that. Otherwise, folks like John Cena and Sheamus who are consistently made to look strong, or popular ones such as Santino Marella and John Lauriniatis that are allowed to entertain the same way week in and week out, would chart well.
At some point in the future, we'll be able to look back and do some analysis of the Standings and how different performers were being presented and received. For now, cast YOUR Vote for whoever impressed or entertained YOU the most last week. YOU can also find out how YOU Voted in the previous poll and how that impacted the annual list. If YOU feel like it, tell us why YOU voted the way YOU did...It's for science.
Remember, the poll is for the previous week - RAW from June 25th, the June 28th Impact!, and the Smackdown that aired on Friday the 29th.
Make YOUR mark, smarks!
Will there ever come a time when YOU don't love her?
April Jeanette continues her streak of first place finishes, while the Show Off and the Greatest Man That Ever Lived swap spots for the same top three as we had in the last poll. The presumptive Bound for Glory series winner debuts on the S3, as does the One Man Rock Band (baby!). And the World Heavyweight Champ earns his best finish ever, proving that there's more than one Cagesider who loves the big, the white and the Irish.
The S3 - Week Ending June 24
1. AJ Lee
2. Austin Aries
3. Dolph Ziggler
4. James Storm
5. (tie) CM Punk
5. (tie) Sheamus
7. Bobby Roode
8. Damien Sandow
9. (tie) Daniel Bryan
9. (tie) Heath Slater
No changes in order of the annual S3 this week, but the field continues to close the gap on the boys feuding for the WWE Championship. The current Wrestler Wrankings leader does crack the top ten...do wins and losses matter to YOU Smarks?
The S3 Performer of the Year - through the Week Ending June 24
1. CM Punk - 80.5 points
2. Daniel Bryan - 76
3. AJ Lee - 49.5
4. Dolph Ziggler - 44.5
5. Austin Aries - 39.5
6. Bobby Roode - 38
7. Chris Jericho - 27
8. Brock Lesnar - 26.5
9. (tie) John Laurinaitis - 25.5
9. (tie) Sheamus- 25.5
Now that she's wrestling, and soon to be officiating, can anything stop AJ's rise to the top? TNA wrestlers had been showing well in the S3 of late - will the disappointment in the 'Summer Series' that many here at cSs have expressed buck this trend? Who else may have caught YOUR eye the week of June 25th?
Thanks for YOUR Votes, and we'll see YOU next week for more market research of the S3!
