Pop quiz, hotshot: your number one star on Smackdown, Randy Orton, is down for the count thanks to a second Wellness Policy violation. He's gone for 60 days and with the B-show already pulling in weak house show figures, you need something -- or someone -- to lessen the blow of losing "The Apex Predator." What do you do? WHAT DO YOU DO?!
Yeah, I'm super old and I just referenced the 1994 movie Speed but this is exactly the problem Vince McMahon and company find themselves in right now.
While Sheamus currently holds the World Heavyweight Championship and is slowly becoming one of WWE's mega-Superstars, he simply isn't there yet. Orton, on the other hand, is a bonafide moneymaker and a huge fan favorite.
So him going AWOL -- nudge, nudge -- for two months is definitely going to hurt Smackdown's house show gates which, as of late, haven't been too great to begin with.
Who will come to save the day?
None other than WWE '13 coverboy and WWE Champion CM Punk.
According to The Wrestling Observer, the Straight Edge Superstar will get switched over from Raw to Smackdown in the very near future to help accommodate Orton's lack of presence.
It should be noted the move is only temporary and will basically only affect house shows since someone of Punk's stature appears on live Raws and taped Smackdowns anyway.
The Blue Crew will have Punk, Daniel Bryan, Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio while Raw will have main events consisting of John Cena, The Big Show and cameos from Triple H. One of those sounds great and the other sounds downright terrible. Try to guess which is which.
So it certainly seems if Smackdown is coming to your town soon, it'd likely make for a pretty fun evening.
