CM Punk talks new WWE title belt design at Wizard World

Your "Straight Edge" World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Champion, CM Punk, has never been shy in expressing his dislike of the bling-heavy John Cena inspired design of the WWE "spinner" championship belt.

He referenced a desire to replace it in the run up to the Money in the Bank pay-per-view (PPV) last year, and has stated in interviews since that he wishes the powers that be would hand him an ice cream bar in one hand and a newly designed title in the other.

That may actually be happening sooner than you think.

According to Punk, who spoke at a Q&A yesterday (June 2, 2012) at the Wizard World convention (nerds unite!) in Philadelphia, there is a new title belt design, and from the sound of things it's done and waiting for the right moment to be presented. Interestingly enough, he doesn't seem to like it very much, although he does say it's better than spinner belt.

Here is Punk discussing the heir to the Spinner throne (33:33 into the video):

Rumors from other sites (particularly "belttalk", an online community of belt makers, re-leatherers, and collectors) say the new design is something akin to the old Pride fighting championship, with the Spinner-style "WW" of the WWE emblazoned in the middle.

Think something like this (the right belt) ...

... meets the redesigned ECW title.

We'll see.

So when will we see this new title? They've had plenty of opportunity to bring it in for Punk, so smart money may be on someone else debuting it. Maybe a certain ex-MMA fighter?

Or maybe the 1,000th episode of Raw?
