Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling ran a Bound for Glory Series last year that started strong as a way to create a superstar (which it did) but ultimately confused fans with a convoluted points based system that saw certain wrestlers work more often than others.
Not this year.
Indeed, the company has officially announced the 2012 Bound for Glory Series and the format has been updated to reflect issues from last year. There will be 12 wrestlers involved and they will be determined by a Gauntlet match on tomorrow night's (June 14) edition of Impact.
The major change from last year is that each competitor will then have one match against all other competitors. This will go on until the Sept. 6 episode of Impact where the points standings will be locked down and the top two points leaders advance to the No Surrender pay-per-view (PPV) event for a "one-night playoff" to determine who wins the title shot at Bound for Glory.
Here's how points will be added up:
Submission Victory - 10 points
Pinfall Victory - 7 points
Countout Victory - 5 points
Disqualification Victory - 3 points
Draw (Time Limit/Double Countout/Double Disqualification) - Two points
Disqualification Lose - you LOSE 10 points
Now that the format has been fleshed out to avoid unnecessary confusion, TNA has given fans a reason to want to tune in and stay invested in the Series. And, dare I say it, they've succeeded in creating hype.
My early pick? James Storm.
How about you, Cagesiders? What do you think of the format changes and who do you predict emerges the winner at the end?
