TNA Impact Wrestling
If you watched last night's live edition of Impact Wrestling, you were either getting paid to do so -- like my Cageside colleague Geno Mrosko -- or simply a glutton for punishment.
It simply was not good.
But there was one interesting tidbit to come out of the show. TNA President Dixie Carter announced the formation of their own Hall of Fame and the first inductee will be named at this month's (June 10) Slammiversary event, live from Arlington, Tx.
Now, the WWE Hall of Fame is a bit of a sham, let's not kid ourselves. Pettiness and hurt feelings keep some of the most deserving wrestlers -- "Macho Man" Randy Savage -- out. Still though, WWE had been around for around three decades before starting the honor by inducting André the Giant, a worthy nominee if there ever was one.
TNA has only been around for 10 years. Regardless, they're going forward with their plan to induct someone in nine days time.
But who will get the nod?
I discuss the likely candidates after the jump.
The odds on favorite is Jeff Jarrett. He founded the company, was the top star for a majority of its 10-year run and has recently taken more of a backstage role making him the perfect fit for the first time inductee.
You can't discount Sting either, who will challenge for the TNA World Heavyweight Champion at Slammiversary. He's been a major focal point of the promotion since his proper run started in 2006. Also, Carter and the rest of the TNA gang can claim Sting is part of their Hall of Fame and not a member of WWE's version.
I have a horrible feeling in my gut the man to get the honor will be Hulk Hogan, though. If Carter is enough of a Hogan mark to allow him to ruin her product, I wouldn't put it past her to prop him up as her company's Hall of Fame's first induction.
The longshot but probably the only active member of the roster who deserves it most is AJ Styles. The promotion's first Triple Crown Champion -- World, X-Division, and Tag Team -- has been with the company since jump start and is one of its most recognizable stars.
But who knows? It is TNA so they might induct Monty Brown, Elix Skipper or another long-gone TNA star just to work-shoot everybody.
Oh, who am I kidding?
It's going to be JWoww.
