In a match-up sure to make consumers flock to their televisions to drop $50 on it, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has announced on its website that Sheamus will defend his world heavyweight championship against Alberto Del Rio at the Over the Limit pay-per-view (PPV) event scheduled for May 20, 2012, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
This feud started the day after Sheamus won the title at WrestleMania 28 when Del Rio returned from injury to challenge the new champion. It felt forced and out of nowhere for no reason other than WWE seemingly wants the "Mexican Aristocrat" in the title picture.
Sheamus has been busy battling it out with Daniel Bryan, defeating him at every turn. He beat him at WrestleMania, he beat him in the rematch at Extreme Rules and he beat him on Smackdown a few times as well. Despite that, Bryan has moved up the card, jumping over to Monday Night Raw to feud with CM Punk for the WWE championship.
That match is also set for Over the Limit.
In actuality, Sheamus vs. Del Rio should be a solid if unspectacular match. The issue is whether or not fans will have any interest in seeing it. Sheamus is still getting decent babyface reactions from live crowds but "ADR" is severely lacking heat. They've got time to build it but his run as WWE champion was so underwhelming he dropped the title back to John Cena late last year after just a few weeks on top.
Perhaps he'll have more luck on the Smackdown side of things.
After the jump check out the updated line up for the Over the Limit event.
