Sometimes World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) stumbles across a performer talented enough to overcome a silly gimmick or character. Drew Hankinson is not one of these people.
Okay, maybe that's being a little harsh. Back in 2007, Hankinson was paired up with Ray Gordy in a tag team playing Southern characters named Festus and Jesse. Festus had an interesting gimmick, to say the least. He was a mentally challenged man who was all but catatonic until the bell rang, at which point he would suddenly transform into an unstoppable beast that ran through people. The match would end, the bell would ring again, and he would return to his catatonic state.
This played itself out over a few years and finally the team was separated in the 2009 supplemental draft. The Festus gimmick couldn't survive on its own and Hankinson soon after took a long hiatus to get repackaged as Luke Gallows, a member of CM Punk's Straight Edge Society.
But not before he had one last memorable moment on Monday Night Raw.
Jillian Hall, a decent looking but incredibly annoying Diva, had worked a gimmick as a singer who got heat by being ridiculously bad at it. This actually worked, too. She got over as a heel and was used sporadically when needed.
And on this date in WWE history (May 4, 2009), Jillian had a singoff with Festus. It was a super silly idea that was just as dumb in practice but it was a fun way to kill time on an uneventful episode of Raw. See the video after the jump.
