Nowadays, we take the amount of wrestling we can easily watch for granted.
Sure, WWE Raw is hit or miss and Impact is pretty much unwatchable for the most part but between those two programs, Smackdown, NXT, Superstars and Ring of Honor for some of you, there's nearly 10 hours of wrestling programming to soak in each and every week.
It didn't used to be this way so when Saturday Night's Main Event debuted on this date in 1985, it was a pretty big deal, made even bigger by the fact it was on a broadcast network, NBC, and not one of those fancy channels you had to pay for. Who am I, Gordon Gekko?
Featuring Wendi Richter defending her WWE Women's Championship against The Fabulous Moolah and Hulk Hogan, in a rare TV appearance, battling "Cowboy" Bob Orton, the show was an instant success and ran for seven years before being brought back in 2006 to a less than enthusiastic response.
