It didn't take long for the first bit of information to come out on John Cena recently filing for divorce from his wife, Liz. Naturally, the bloodhounds at TMZ.com are on the case and they've been in contact with Liz's attorney.
Here's a snip from their report:
Liz' attorney tells us, Cena blindsided her with the divorce filing. They had been having issues -- and Cena even approached her recently with a pre-divorce financial settlement agreement -- but Liz refused to sign it, convinced the relationship would still work out.
That falls in line with quotes from the original report with Liz's attorney saying the husband and wife were high school sweethearts and she had hoped the fairy tale love would have a happy ending.
John obviously had other ideas.
With a prenuptial agreement in place, it's difficult to imagine how Liz will come out of this with anything, especially considering the fact that Cena seems to have done everything necessary to cover his own hide in the event this ever happened. Then again, if the soon to be former Mrs. Cena has enough dirt, there's no telling where this divorce will go.
Or some of the secret beans she could spill. If there are any, of course.
Editors note: I thought a point brought up by Cagesider who me in the comments was worth putting here:
If you have lawyers draw up a pre-divorce settlement contract for your spouse then that's a pretty huge red flag you are about to get divorced. Hard to be blindsided when you already know your spouse is having official documentation prepared.
This is just a lawyer prepping for a public relations battle to gain some negotiation leverage. They know John Cena will want to avoid bad press as much as possible and are using that against him. Let's face it, his wife didn't hire a cutthroat lawyer because she wants to save her marriage and work things out, she didn't like the settlement offer and hired a gunslinger to get her more.
