My Cageside colleague Keith Harris reported earlier this week Dave "Fit" Finlay may have been re-hired by WWE after being fired last year. Harris delved into the specifics surrounding Finlay's walking papers in the linked article but the nutshell version is WWE wanted to avoid beef with the Armed Forces as well as the use of a banned chair shot in a Daniel Bryan/Sheamus match earned the Irishman his walking papers.
Of course, Finlay denies getting his old job back but I did manage to scope him out at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony sitting on the floor with the rest of Vince McMahon's crew.
Regardless of whether or not he'll be acting as a producer/road agent for the world's largest wrestling promotion, Finlay is staying busy.
He will be competing for Dragon Gate USA's sister promotion, Evolve, in the main event of their 11th event. In Toronto, he'll be taking on Sami Callihan in a rematch of their excellent match from last July.
And now it seems he'll sticking around in "The Queen City" for a bit longer. Ring of Honor (ROH) has announced the living legend for their Border Wars event set for May 12. No opponent has been named but I can easily rattle off a list of ROH talent I'd love to see in the ring with "The Belfast Bruiser."
Who would you like to see Finlay face off against, Cagesiders? Kevin Steen? Maybe a non-title scrap against Davey Richards? In my opinon, a match against Michael Elgin, especially after "Unbreakable's" star-making turn at Showdown in the Sun: Night Two seems to be the most logical choice.
Full press release after the jump.
The Belfast Bruiser comes to Ring of Honor!
Ring of Honor officials held a private press conference on Monday April 2nd in Baltimore and one of the major things that came out of it, something we are extremely excited to announce, is that negotiations have been finalized with one of the most respected wrestlers who has ever set foot in the ring, a near 40-year veteran of the ring wars, to make his ROH debut when we return to Toronto on May 12th!
After much fan demand, and weeks of back-and-forth talks, "The Belfast Bruiser" Fit Finlay comes to Ring of Honor just in time for "Border Wars" at The Ted Reeve Arena! One of the toughest men in the sport, Finlay is as world traveled a wrestler as you are likely to find, has competed against the best competition across decades, won championships everywhere, and now wants to come to ROH to fight the best of the best of today's crop of athletes.
It has yet to be determined who Finlay will face on May 12th so keep an eye on ROHWrestling.com as well as our official Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube accounts for all the latest news about our live events. In the meantime, make sure you head to the ROH Store and pick up your tickets right here for our long awaited return to Toronto & the great Ted Reeve Arena!!!
