In accordance with its Talent Wellness Program, WWE has suspended Oscar Gutierrez (Rey Mysterio) for 60 days effective Thursday, April 26 for his second violation of the company's policy.
This is a huge turn of events for the fan favorite. Rey Mysterio is one of the most popular wrestlers on the roster, and one cannot venture into a WWE Event without seeing his mask worn by many of his fans. He has been struggling to come back from numerous injuries over the years, but his body just seems to not be able to handle the stress. Mysterio was written off the show August 8, 2011 by a kayfabe attack by The Miz to give him time to recover, and was rumored to return by WrestleMania 28. However, he has suffered constant setbacks and just cannot seem to get healthy enough to return.
The assumption with this news is that he took something either to help him recover faster, or something to ease the pain of his body failing him. Either way, it looks like Rey wont be appearing on our television anytime soon. The silver lining of this is that perhaps with this suspension, he will look to retire instead of subjecting his body to further abuse.
