On March 3, 2008, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) finally pulled the plug on the Cruiserweight Championship it inherited from World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in its 2001 acquisition.
How fitting then, that Hornswoggle would be the last member of the Lollipop Guild man to hold the strap.
Horny was eventually stripped of the title by then-manager Vickie Guerrero, and it remained on the back of a milk carton until it got a call from creative, telling it they had nothing for him.
Says WWE.com:
Since its inception in WCW in late 1991, the Cruiserweight Championship has had a roller coaster of an existence. Its first obstacle was overcoming an almost four-year lull when WCW failed to re-establish the championship after stripping Brad Armstrong of it in 1992. Since that time, several other questionable decisions were made -- most notably when both Lenny Lane and The Artist were stripped of their titles in controversial fashion. In addition, the Cruiserweight Championship also found its way around the waists of some women's wrestlers including Madusa. Despite all this, the Cruiserweight Championship has become the highest accolade in cruiserweight wrestling. It is because of the recent efforts of Superstars such as Gregory Helms, Chavo Guerrero and Jamie Noble that the Cruiserweight Championship is held in such high regard.
Helms actually held the title the longest at 385 days while Rey Mysterio Jr. was an eight-time champion (five reigns in WCW, three in WWE), but somehow I just can't shake the sight of you-know-who taking home the gold.
See Hornswoggle get it done, after the jump.
