On March 26, 2001, World Championship Wrestling's (WCW) Monday Nitro emanated from Panama City, dubbed "Night of Champions," at the same time World Wrestling Entertainment was running Monday Night Raw from from the Gund Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
But it was hardly business as usual in the Monday Night Wars.
That's because after a long and bloody battle, both programs were now simultaneously owned and under the control of WWE chairman Vince McMahon, who appeared on Nitro live via satellite (in the "redneck Riviera" as he called it) for his big victory speech.
But while McMahon was gloating over the death of his biggest rival and burying his son Shane in the process (in advance of their WrestleMania X-Seven match), Shane-O-Mac had already (kayfabe) signed the bill of sale for the purchase of WCW and had effectively stolen it out right from under him.
See him show up on Nitro and break the big news, after the jump.
Anyone else shocked to see WCW go out like this? What was your initial reaction?
