WWE planning second 'Greatest Rivalries' DVD according to Jim Ross
As soon as the WWE announced the "Greatest Rivalries: Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart" project, I was eager to get my hands on it. It promised to be the perfect mixture of fact and fiction that makes for some of the best professional wrestling.
And sure enough it was. My colleague Keith Harris was first to review the bad boy and confirmed what I had hoped: the DVD was exactly what fans were hoping for.
The emotion both men -- especially Hart -- displayed as they went through their rivalry -- both on-screen and off -- bit by bit was absolutely engaging. Combined with the matches also available on the set, it made for a no-brainer of a purchase for any wrestling fan.
Now word is out via Good Ol' JR that a second installment is in the world. Jim Ross dropped the news in his latest blog that fans should expect the set by year's end:
"Will WWE do more Rivalry DVDs?" Absolutely. Another major production is scheduled for 2012 but I am not sure as to the rivalry that will be featured but the rumors that I hear are fascinating. Obviously, I hope to be involved as I was with the Bret/Shawn DVD which is a must see.
Let the speculation begin.
Me? It may be a longshot but I am hoping like hell we get Arn Anderson vs. Syco Sid. Hey, a man can dream, can't he?

Arn and Sid...
Got into back in the day while both were in WCW. Sid busted out some scissors and stabbing Arn a bunch of times while managing to get stabbed himself a handful of times. Sid got fired soon after.

Well, ok, but they never had a significant kayfabe rivalry, did they? I mean that DVD would be twenty minutes long. On the other hand, if they want to do a Backstage Heat collection, I might check that out.

Sergio was likely making a joke.
No human being actually wants to sit through a Sid match.
No he's not.
That’s the rumor about what happened. Sid was supposed to go over for the title (over Sting, I believe) but he got into a tussle with Arn (one of the WCW bookers at the time) and produced a pair of scissors, which he used as a weapon.
Um, yes...
I was.
Like Ast said, I would rather gouge my eyes out than sit through a collection of Sid matches.

Yep but really...
a Sid retrospective DVD would be great for all the right and wrong reasons.

lulz!
oh, and I think it was “sycho” not “syco”. Yes of course it would be me to point that out.
Psycho Sid
and the story Ive heard in different shoot interviews from both sides is . . . Both were very drunk one night and were getting into it. They got separated at the bar. Later on at the hotel Sid came looking for Arn. Arn grabs scissors to defend himself but in the scuffle loses them (after stabbing Sid a couple times) and Sid gets him pretty good. Fight gets broken up and no more Sid in WCW till years later.
by AverageJoeEveryman on Feb 8, 2012 12:30 PM EST up reply actions
yeah, that's what I've heard too.
Also, according to Vader, one of Sid’s puncture wounds caused blood to squirt out like a fountain, so he stuck his thumb in there to stop it. Crazy stuff.
And I know “psycho” is the proper spelling, but during his 96-97 run with WWE they dropped the “p” for some strange reason.
Austin vs McMahon
Is the most obvious choice. Its really been covered pretty well through the various Austin sets, the McMahon DVD, and even the Monday Night War.
The ones I want are Mankind/Undertaker, which would probably stink due to Taker probably not being willing to do a “real” interview, and even if he would Foley would probably try too hard to be funny. Or Raven/Dreamer because I was unable to watch ECW in those days.

I like Raven vs. Dreamer. I doubt we’ll ever see that DVD, though.

Rock v Austin
Or Austin v McMahon
Or maybe Paul Heyman v Everyone at some point in time.

They set the bar pretty high
Seeing as how Bret vs HBK is the biggest, longest and most discussion-worthy feud ever. It would be tough to market any major feud over the past 20 years now with the talent roster available (i.e. not in tna, doesn’t hate vince, can’t break character). The most obvious choice is Rock vs Stone Cold, but I don’t see that happening. Possibly Triple H and Foley?
Why wouldn't Rock/Stone Cold happen?
Rock’s making a comeback now and Stone Cold is rumored to be interested in one more match. And its not like both guys haven’t been more than willing to do DVDs in the past. I’d say that’s probably the next one they would make and it would also be the one closest to Hart/Michaels.
I duno...
Both seem to be content on doing their own thing and have also grown/changed a lot since their feuding days…so they may just be content to let the work speak for itself. Just a vibe I get, no actual basis really. Rock seems pretty self-serving as far as his wrestling decisions go, so I don’t know that he’d be down for a 4-5 hr sit down interview, but hey, who knows? Austin would be more likely, especially if he’s actually serious about that last match. It just seems that both Foley and H are more invested in their wrestling careers and seemingly more open to doing a project like this, and they’d be next in line behind Hart/HBK and Rock/Austin, I guess.
I feel like Rock would do it if nothing else then the exposure he would get. Guy loves the limelight and having a video discussing him and Austin, two of the most popular wrestlers ever would provide a shit-ton of exposure for him.
On a side note regarding Rock, I was just watching Sportscenter during my lunch and he was on discussing his career and the upcoming Wrestlemania. After he was done and they came back from commerical they had to apologize because he said “Boots to Asses” and “Bullshit” on the air.

HHH and Rock
They had legit heat backstage and in the ring but still produced some great matches and had a great rivalry.

I have a hard time imagining
either Hogan or Savage being featured in a DVD right now. Austin/Rock seems the most obvious.
Hogan vs Warrior

Hell, why not all three?
They were the major players for the attitude era. It wouldn’t fit the mold of the first DVD, but I think that would be the most interesting without leaving anyone out.

Iron Shiek and well just about everyone
just pick a wrestler he wrestled with and he most likely didn’t like them
Players who should be in the Hall of Fame: Pat TIllman, Dwight White, Donnie Shell, L.C. Greenwood, Ray Guy, Steve Tasker, Greg Lloyd, Andy Russell, Cris Carter, Kevin Greene, Andre Reed and Jerry Kramer

I'd like a McMahon vs Bischoff set.
Why not? Sure the Monday night Wars have been discussed over and over, but I think we deserve a video highlighting the greatest episodes, digs, PPVs and matches both guys put up, every Monday night to battle eachother. It won’t happen until Bischoff is out of TNA but I for one would like to see that.

What do people think of one of Flair's feuds or one of Hogan's feuds?
Not with each other necessarily. Do people think it is unlikely due to them being involved with TNA right now? I could certainly see that viewpoint but I would imagine those two have some good feuds. I’m assuming they could find some good ones in there. Savage vs. either one, Andre vs. Hogan. Of course two of Flair’s big ones have some issues that probably hold them up. Dusty vs. Flair was pre-WWE, and Sting obviously isn’t associated with WWE but that would also be a decent one.
Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing a Hogan-Piper feud video. I mean…it had it’s own Saturday cartoon.

Clarification:
I would imagine those two have some good feuds.
Meaning I know they’ve had good feuds, but was saying that they’ve had ones that would make excellent videos.
by The Name is Dalton on Feb 9, 2012 10:40 AM EST up reply actions
well I think the premise of these videos involves having the involved parties discuss the feuds. So any feud with Andre and Savage are obviously out. And there’s no way WWE would ever promote a video highlighting a current TNA talent.
Another thing is that Piper and Flair among others have done really long in-depth shoot interviews with Highspots and RF so whatever they would have to contribute to a project like this has likely already been said. Similar issues with the HBK/Bret vid with both already publishing books and doing multiple, uncensored shoot interviews.
Good point regarding the deceased.
Makes sense, but would just leave out the chance to discuss some very good, classic feuds. Also see your point with Piper and Flair already doing interviews on it, but I don’t know if that stops Vince from trying to make a buck off of it.
Either way, they probably won’t happen due to the TNA association I agree with you there. It’s a shame, really. I always thought Piper was one of the better heels of his time.
