On this date in WWF history: The Mega Powers explode!
Whatever happened to bros before hos?
On February 3, 1989, the unlikely tag team of Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan, known as "The Mega Powers," finally disintegrated when the "Macho Man" became convinced that Hulkamania was runnin' wild on Miss Elizabeth.
During their Main Event bout against Akeem and the Big Boss Man, Savage was tossed from the ring, landing on Lizzy and knocking her out cold. Hogan rushed to her aide and raced her to the back, leaving his tag team partner to face "The Twin Towers" by himself.
Not cool.
Liz gets revived, Hulk returns, wins the whole damn match by himself and then can't figure out why Randy is upset. In other words, just another day at the office for ol' yellow and red.
The hilarious video, thanks largely in part to the Hulkster's putrid acting (Doc, save her, pleasssssssse!), after the jump.
Doesn't hold up that well over time, but it was a heck of a big deal when it happened. Any Cagesiders out there remember when this all went down?

It seems terrible but it is exactly what is missing from the product now. They actually developed a story through wrestling.

When this happened, I jumped through the ceiling
I was the ultimate Hogan hater at the time and had no choice but to root for Boss man and Akeem.
But when Savage attacked Hogan, it was one of the greatest moments in wrestling history.

yah yah a lot of people claim not to like hogan....
but if it wasn’t for hogan wrestling wouldn’t have been popular in the 80s or the 90s and the same guys that talk badly about him were rocking the hulk rules t shirt back then.
Kenwo4life=ratings. Just call me Mr. USA Today.
Not me. I was rocking the Hulk sucks shirt!!!!
I was a full fledged supporter of the Heenan Family and Ted Dibiase was the man!!!!!!

The only time I liked Hogan was when the nWo first came out
And after a year or so of that, that shit got old
"80 percent of this thread is rangerjae's sig". -Jim Margulus 6/16/11
The kliq have always been my favorite wrestlers
The nWo was awesome because Nash and Hall were in it and they somehow got me to like Hogan.
I just wish that the two promotions had the balls to pull off a nWo v DX interpromotional thing. That would have been sweet.

i was at money in the bank. great pay per view.
much better than the rotten Raw that was in chicago the day after christmas.

Hogan was the greatest at the time
And that time was the 80s and 97. Every other time, he wasn’t even close to the greatest.
I think it holds up just fine.
You cant really expect any better acting in wrestling and it’s arbitrary anyway. Long term, coherent story lines like this are what I and most others miss. Also, Savage was the fucking man.

People who were not old enough to remember or have watched 80’s wrestling or experience its impact are not qualified to critique Hogan’s almightiness.

Million Dollar Man!!!!! Owns him!!!!! LOL!!!!!

I was 14 and I was pissed. Randy Savage had become my favorite wrestler at this point and ya
Liz got knocked out but that was her own damn fault. As Jesse Said what is Hogan going to do bleed for her. Hogan left Macho alone to get double teamed and then wonders why Macho tagged out the way he did. I was really hating on Hogan and now reliving my emotions as a 14 year old.. Out of all my friends I was the only one rooting for Savage at WM5. I still say fuck you Hogan.

Yeah that sucked
But you know what made Wrestlemania V Rick Rude beat the Warrior!!!!! I was jumping up and down and bragging about it to school!

oh i was marking out to that too. the warrior is and always was a lame.
anybody who cheered for him over hogan should be ashamed of themselves!

At my buddies house he had the Hulk Rules shirt on, the Hulk doo rag, the hulk wrist bands and I was just go warrior (I was still bitter over WM5)
Needless to say this was before i found out how bat shit crazy the Warrior was.

Man, fuck Hogan trying to horn in on Savage's girl.
I still maintain that Savage was the face in that whole deal.
by Razztopia on Feb 3, 2012 2:08 PM EST reply actions 1 recs
Agreed
I still maintain Sgt Slaughter was the face in the whole Hogan situation as well. Boy was just trying to get paid.

I was a huge Macho Man fan
so this turned me against Hogan. With the exception of the beginning of the nWo, I haven’t been a Hogan fan since

A few points...
One.. was Akeem like an African Fairy or something?
Two.. What passed as entertainment back then.. geez, the Twin Towers were horrendous.
Three.. Does she have a pulse?
Four.. Anyone else think this is where Hunter got his crappy acting lessons?
Five.. Is that Liz or Katie Vick, because she looked absolutely lifeless.
Suum Cuique
Twin Towers were an awesome team.
