An important message for CagesideSeats.com readers

What's up, Cagesiders?

Last night was Raw and with that, the live blog thread that's become our most popular. We went from that post getting 400 comments to the 1500 we got last night. That's awesome to see and I'm glad so many of you spend your Monday night right here hanging with us.

That said, things got a little out of hand last night. A lot of going off topic, a lot of .gifs and pictures were posted, and a lot of half naked ladies showed up in said pictures.

Let me start by saying no one is in trouble here and I'm not even trying to scold anyone. Please don't think that. Some of you know me from MMA Mania and you know my moderating policies. Going off topic is totally okay. I know Raw gets slow at points and you guys aren't bound to the show like me when I'm live blogging it. If you want to talk about something else for a few minutes, more power to you.

Normally, I have no problem with posting pictures of hot women who are half naked (Just remember that you can never post actual nudity. Showing a woman in a thong is fine but anything further than that is a no go.)

However, with the Raw live blog threads having grown so large, posting a lot of pictures and .gifs slows down the page loading time. For that reason, let's try to keep pics and .gifs in that thread to a minimum. Like, almost never. We also need to make sure we're respectful of everyone here, so if the time comes that the women who venture around these parts get uncomfortable with it, we'll have to respect that.

I tend to give you folks as much freedom as possible. You don't have to worry about me coming in swinging a banhammer around. Typically, you guys can work things out amongst yourselves and that's how it should be. Racism will never be okay and and we'll make sure to deal with it if someone starts trolling the threads.

We're growing as a community and it's great to see. Welcome new folks with open arms and try to get along with everyone. I know it's the Internet but we can all be one happy pro wrestling family.

Thanks for hanging out, Cagesiders. If you've got any questions, leave a comment and I'll answer back ASAP.

The FanPosts are solely the subjective opinions of Cageside Seats readers and do not necessarily reflect the views of Cageside Seats editors or staff.

Thanks

I didn’t wanna come off as whining but it’s been my experience that live discussion like that can get awful with pictures and stuff.

The new rule should be

Only Johnny Ace pictures allowed.

Just a suggestion

Tomahawk Nation (SBN’s Florida State blog) divides up its Game Threads by quarters. To help offset some of the slowness, maybe make a 2nd thread for the 2nd hour of Raw.

I understand about the pictures, it just seems that whenever a live thread on SBN gets over 300-400 comments things start slowing to a crawl no matter what

by Jonathan Loesche on Feb 21, 2012 1:37 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah...

My laptop crashes after about 1200 comments or so and then I can’t get back on here. I’m in agreement about splitting it up into two different threads. Or some kind of chat client would be cool.

As for what happened last night…I’m going to say it and I don’t care if I get flack for it.

Certain posters need to GTFO.

What sucked during the chamber was my ability to watch the going ons & also comment were greatly hindered. I needed 2 computers or maybe I’ll try Chromes split screen for 2 pages.

Wanted to party w/ ya’ll during the chamber though.

Just use two tabs or windows

Keep one on the action and one on the comments. That’s what I did/do.

by Mjub on Feb 22, 2012 12:46 PM EST up reply actions

The same

When there’s a match I’m not interested in, or filler, I turn on the CSS tab and just listen to what’s going on during the match.

Also, for anyone who doesn’t know, in a thread, if you press the ‘Z’ button, it scrolls down to all of the newest posts, and marks them as read.

one of my favorites

is using the z button to scroll through to new comments. Say you go back in a thread that has 100+ comments, with 2 or 3 new, just hit the z button and it jumps to the newest comment, marks it read and when you hit z again it jumps to the next and so on. It’s a lot easier than scrolling though and looking for new comments.

Or use C and X

C to go to new comments

X to mark them as read

You guys are awesome. Thank you.

by Rawuncutnxrated on Feb 28, 2012 6:11 AM EST up reply actions

But why would you use two keys when one does the job of both?

like 49erLou said, Z jumps to the newest comment (what C does) and then marks it as read (what X does).

by Kyle Rancourt on Feb 29, 2012 4:40 PM EST up reply actions

The only thing I can think of

is the Stone Cold Stunner. You have to kick the guy first then hit the stunner.

Seriously though, I didn’t even know about the C & X combo. I’ve only used Z because, like you said, it does the job of both C & X.

Nah, I hate that other SBN sites do that

It makes too disjointed.

Geno, please don't put the onus on women to be the killjoys.

The reason I (and many other people, I assume, but I’ll only speak for myself) make CSS my wrestling home on the internet is because of the intelligent analysis and debate, which, in my experience, is unique among the multitude of wrestling sites. I’m sure everyone has seen the tenor of comments on other sites, (e.g., “Dude, u r stoopid lol wtf.”), and I don’t think any of us want that level of debate here. IMO, the more we clog up the comment threads with unrelated drabble, be it pictures of women or anything else, the less room there is for meaningful discussion that makes CSS great. That said, if the commenters prefer to turn CSS into 4chan, I don’t think it’s my responsibility to run crying to the staff and become a scapegoat for spoiling everyone else’s fun. I’ll just vote with my pageviews and surf elsewhere, as will other people who were turned off by what happened last night. That’s why it’s incumbent upon the moderators to set reasonable ground rules that preserve the environment of respectful debate and analysis, and it’s incumbent on commenters who enjoy such environment to follow the ground rules. There are plenty of other places on the internet to look at pictures of women or to mindlessly sound off about nothing. We don’t need this to be another one.

"There are plenty of other places on the internet to look at pictures of women"

Would you mind posting some links? I have a friend who would like to look at these pictures of women.

by Jon Knapik on Feb 21, 2012 2:24 PM EST up reply actions

I’ve got you covered.

I agree with Jolie, by the way. And, besides, it’s dangerous to mix pleasures. Last night’s posters were flying too close to the sun on wings of pastrami.

Yea! what she said.

Actually, we can do a fan post during Raw for the great pictures that get posted & then link it to the main comment board or something along those lines. I liked some of the pictures, but I understand that ladies might be put off.. and we want to keep the ladies here as well, its an interesting perspective. Other pictures like Ace & whatever else went on could be linked up as well.

I’m not so sure how many people check out fanposts, so in the short-term it might also help for regular commenters to remind people at the start of the shows to not post the pictures and gifs.

by Kanenite on Feb 21, 2012 2:36 PM EST reply actions

They should also be sized down so that they don't take up huge amounts of space, too

by Rawuncutnxrated on Feb 23, 2012 4:24 AM EST up reply actions

Honestly, I think it's better to keep it picture and .gif free.

There are very few instances in which a picture is even necessary.

Like when Otunga took that pic of Laurinaitis, Henry, Del Rio and Christian and posted it on Twitter immediately and someone posted that in the thread, that’s fine. But that leading to people just trying to find pics to post to one up each other, that’s not fine.

Forget it Donny, you're out of your element.

I think that should be a rule for ANY picture posted, not just ones in live threads

It should be for anything, period

In addition to being able to close something you don’t want to see, providing a heading also works with the search feature, when you’re looking for stuff.
