WWE Smackdown spoilers for show to air this Fri., Feb. 3, 2012

Photo

WWE Smackdown was taped last night (Jan. 31) in Omaha for the show to air this coming Friday night on SyFy. The show is being advertised as featuring a main event of Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett, as well as the announcement of who will be in the Smackdown Elimination Chamber match.

We know who will be in that match already and you can read all about that right here.

It's quite the rag-tag bunch and one man, in particular, is missing that presumably should be there but isn't for reasons sure to make plenty of you sad pandas.

You can read full spoilers for this week's episode of WWE Smackdown (via Wrestling Observer) after the jump.

Star-divide

For starters, the top of the arena was tarped off and plenty of seats were empty. Smackdown is a great show but it's not filling buildings all around the country.

-- The show opens to recap the Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett feud, promoting the main event match between the two set for later in the night.

-- Teddy Long (playa) made his way out to announce the Smackdown Elimination Chamber match participants, which, at that point, was Daniel Bryan, Orton, Barrett, Cody Rhodes, Big Show and Mark Henry. All the top dogs from Smackdown besides Sheamus, basically. Henry came out to demand an immediate title shot, though, and eventually it led to him grabbing up Long and getting suspended. This was done to write Henry off TV, presumably so he can heal up his injuries. I already talked about this in the previous post announcing the Chamber match but Henry's treatment couldn't be more disheartening.

-- The segment ended with Sheamus coming out to boot Henry out with a Brogue Kick, so he's gone. Cody Rhodes came out and got on Sheamus' case, leading to Long making a match between the two. I don't even need to tell you who won for you to know.

-- Justin Gabriel and Hunico were to have a match but it never happened because Rhodes went after Gabriel. Camacho and Hunico jumped in and Great Khali came out to make the save.

-- They do a backstage comedy segment involving Drew McIntyre, Santino Marella, Jim Duggan and Aksana.

-- Epico and Primo def. Santino and Jim Duggan who formed a tag team in the earlier comedy sketch. Glad to see the tag champs getting clean wins over solid competition.

-- Michael Cole does an interview with Daniel Bryan that sees him actually apologize to Bryan and admit he was wrong about him. I guess they finally realized that the heel announcer shouldn't be running down the heel champion and calling him a dork. Bryan shakes off the apology, cuts another promo about being vegan (which they can't stop pushing since he won that award) and Big Show came out to get physical.

-- Brodus Clay gets another squash match, this one over Heath Slater. This time, though, when he's done doing his thing, Drew McIntyre comes out to attack. He, too, gets squashed like a bug.

-- Women wrestled.

-- Randy Orton did a backstage interview saying he would have done Barrett just as dirty as Barrett did him. This before he absolutely kills Barrett in the main event, putting him out with multiple RKOs. The end of their feud? We shall see.

There's Smackdown for this week, folks, or at least as described by someone in attendance. Sound like a good show to you?

I’ve been more of a Smackdown fan since I started watching again around 2006, so I went to a taping a few years ago. I won’t go to another. Good TV show, not a good live show. Too much dead time and does not flow or build for the live audience. At this point, I’m either going to a house show or a PPV (in Pgh in Sept! WOOO!) so I can see wrasslin’, not talkin’.

Great stuff. First and foremost, I hope Henry gets well soon.A nasty turn of events he’s been in since dropping the title. Glad that Cole is finally going to stop belittling the Heavyweight champ. Multiple RKOs? Me likey, especially if it’s going to end their feud.

Sidenote: Am I the only guy not able to access Geno’s recent article about The Rock? It’s just giving me a blank page.

So is Henry coming back for EC or is he being replaced?

Sweet God no

He has no knees and can’t move. I’ll take Gabriel over him because Gabriel can actually do things in the ring.

Just about everybody would be an upgrade over Khali, including all the injured wrestlers and maybe even Hornswoggle. Even a comedy entrant like Santino or Hacksaw would be a better choice. Doesn’t Goldust or Booker T have a beef with Cody? Throw one of them in there. Or if not them what about Gabriel or Jinder or Tyson Kidd? Drew McIntyre would be a better choice. What about Christian? And if they just need a reliable vet and don’t like any of those guys, how about Regal? He is reliable and entertaining. Khali is probably the worst choice they could have made. Even Michael Cole would be a better choice since it means we would get JR on commentary.

By the way Sheamus is going to need an opponent as well for this show. I wonder if that’s where Christian comes into play. I can’t really imagine a Sheamus-Jinder match on PPV.

Seeing Khali put into championship matches like this is super frustrating. What is the possible downside of throwing a Tyson Kidd or Justin Gabriel in there and giving them a few minutes to show off their moves before they get pinned? There is no downside to that. There is no upside to using Khali.

And if they really want to make us happy they could always ask Ziggler to do double duty one more time on PPV. I kinda hope Ziggler attacks Khali during his entrance and takes his spot just like Edge did to Kofi a few years ago.

What are the odds Gabriel actually gets pushed?

I thought he was alright when he came up with Nexus, but I watched some South Africa matches he had, and he’s pretty good.

He needs an actual character and does anyone know how good he is on a mic

or is he going to need a manager, which seem to be in short supply these days.

I think he's the type of guy that can get by without much of a character,

since his high-flying style isn’t “generic” WWE wrestling. The couple of matches I saw, he had a valet, and didn’t do too much talking, so I’m not sure how good he is on the mic. He probably could use one, though. Can’t hurt, if nothing else.

"Women wrestled."

OK, I know that the WWE Divas are barely worth talking about, but at least give me SOMETHING, Geno.
