On this date in WWE history: Lita beats Trish Stratus for the Women's championship

Lita won the Women's championship from Trish Stratus in the main event of an episode of Monday Night Raw on this date in WWE history.

Believe it or not there was a time not all that long ago when women actually received top billing at a WWE television show.

Such was the case on this particular date in history (Dec. 6, 2004) when Lita challenged Trish Stratus for the Women's championship in the main event of Monday Night Raw in North Carolina.

That's right, the main event of Raw.

Considering the state of the Divas division now, that's almost unfathomable but not only were the ladies given top billing, they were rocking the building and tearing down the house the whole way.

Lita would win the title from Trish to a huge ovation.
