Sense and Nonsense: Halfway to Survivor Series Edition

Ay dere all you crazy fan-dangled grapplin' fans. Ok I'll lose my Minnesota accent, I'm not even from Minnesota so it didn't make much sense in the first place.

This seems to be the halfway spot to Survivor Series (SS for you abbreviation fanatics) I guess, since it was only a 3 week build from the last PPV to this one, so let's do this!

What Makes Sense:

Shuffling a weak Survivor Series match after realizing how weak it was. I was a little bit ready to mark out during the team reveal, but it was so bad that I ended up disliking that Raw, so a change to the plan was probably a good idea.

What Doesn't Make Sense:

Crossing Cena into yet another main event and randomly throwing Ziggler as the other captain. I thought the Cena/Ziggler feud had legs to stand on, a match at SS could have done good for both guys. Ziggler taking Punk's place as the captain of the heel team didn't make much sense either. At that point couldn't they have let Foley get involved in the main event storyline? What beef does he have with Ziggler? I don't get that decision at all, that being said, I have no problem with the main event not being the SS match if these throw together teams are what we get.

What Makes Sense:

Giving Damian Sandow the push he is getting. I find myself wanting to hear him on the mic or in the ring every week, every show. He just has a certain "this guy could only be a pro wrestler in this world" look and sound to him. He reminds me of 80's and early 90's heels that I used to love to hate.

What Doesn't Make Sense:

Having him in a tag team for this long. I like the dude he's working with (Cody Rhodes), and they don't seem to be a terrible team, I would just rather see Sandow do his own thing. You're always a bit more constricted in a tag team as far as character development goes, and he's a big character guy. He could probably get over faster on his own as well. I was hoping that the Rhodes Scholars would fizzle out after a month or so, but I guess I can live with it for a bit longer.

What Makes Sense:

Having Brad Maddox explain why he did the actions that he did. The reasoning was sound as well, they kind of threw a slice of reality that folks who know the business would enjoy. The backstory was there, and if this kid ends up being even a mid-card type wrestler it will go down as a good debut.

What Doesn't Make Sense:

Their execution of the entire thing. I don't think the kid was ready yet, they probably should have done one of those sit-down interviews with JR or a backstage interview with Josh Matthews or Matt Stryker. The whole low blow execution wasn't that great either, they probably could have mentioned the ref previously messing up a Punk/Sheamus match, during the HIAC match.

What Makes Sense:

Wanting to get as much of your product out there as you can. It's not like this is a new thing for the WWE to have lots of shows on at one time, they know the more possible people can see your product the more people will be drawn. Not too tough to figure that business theory out. I remember my middle school years I'd watch Raw, SmackDown, Heat, and the recap shows on Saturday morning. It works on certain markets and mindsets.

What Doesn't Make Sense:

Going to three hours if you have 3 other shows already. At what point does too much become too much? I'd answer now, maybe some would disagree but when you have so much out there, these programs begin to feel like a recap-fest. Even when they aren't recapping, they are recapping other story lines during matches. It hurts these 3 week PPV buildups as well, because people are almost just ready to get over with it and on to the next one. It seems like every week around 8:30 I have to turn off for at least 30 minutes and sometimes more. Two hour Raw made the 3 hour PPV seem like a treat almost, as stupid as that sounds.

Alright here's the final topic of this edition, we'll put what doesn't make sense first and what makes sense second on the last topic from now on. Tricky I know, but I think you can handle it.

What Doesn't Make Sense:

The fact that lately only 2 members of a group called 3MB have been present. Nothing about this group seems to make much sense, but who cares.
