The Wrankings of Survivor Series world championship bouts means ten points were up for grabs... Find out more in the latest edition of Wrestler Wrankings!
Well, the Survivor Series sure happened, didn't it? Though history may well remember this show for the new faces it brought to WWE, the wrestling media at large are burying the lead.
The real stories were the two huge title matches. Ten Wrankings points were up for grabs to the winners of these world championship bouts, providing the perfect opportunity for the peloton to catch up with runaway leader Sheamus.
But alas, it was not to be. For even in failing to regain his World Heavyweight Championship, the Celtic Warrior was able to attain a very favorable referee's decision and pick up the disqualification victory.
Sheamus ended the match looking very strong, so it remains to be seen how this turn of events will affect his future title shot prospects. On one hand, he appeared to be more than a handful for Big Show at Survivor Series, clearly modifying his game a bit after being out-wrestled and defeated at Hell in a Cell.
Conversely, Sheamus has now had his contractually stipulated rematch and failed to regain the title. How long can other worthy challengers wait?
Of course, Dolph Ziggler can render this whole conversation moot at any time by cashing in his Money in the Bank title shot. It's his prerogative to expend his contract at a time of his choosing, but this exercise in discipline can only last so long for the "Show Off."
In the spirit of the season, we as wrestling fans have plenty to be thankful for as there is intrigue aplenty in the main event scene as we begin the slow build to TLC and, ultimately, the Royal Rumble. I, for one, can't wait to see how things shake out.
