A number one seed advancing to the next round in the Cageside Seats Greatest Matches Tournament? Surely it can't be? Oh, but it is and it's "Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat, WrestleMania 3."
File this one under "least surprising result of all time."
It was a bit of a shock when "Sting vs. Great Muta, Great American Bash 1989" even made it into the Cageside Seats Greatest Matches Tournament, even as a 16 seed.
But once it was matched up against "Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat, WrestleMania 3," a quick exit was inevitable.
That's exactly what happened, too, in a huge blowout. In fact, while overall voting is down a bit after the switch to the new layout, we're still getting around 50-60 votes for each match-up in the first round. To give you an example of how big this blowout was, Sting-Muta received three votes.
Savage-Steamboat garnered 49.
Now we move on to the next match as we inch closer to the end of the opening round: (5) "Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect, SummerSlam 1991" VS. (12) "Mike Awesome vs. Masato Tanaka, November to Remember 1999."
