On this date in WWF history: Rest in peace, Captain Lou Albano

Pro wrestling lost a legend on this date in history, when Captain Lou Albano passed away. Rest in peace.

On October 14, 2009, "Captain" Lou Albano passed on to the squared circle in the sky.

"Leaping" Lou started in the early fifties as a singles performer and eventually settled into his niche of tag team wrestling, but he is perhaps most famous for helping the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) break down mainstream walls by latching on to pop sensation Cyndi Lauper.

For the fellow dinosaurs on this site, I'm sure I don't have to remind you what a phenomenon the "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" video was -- and there was Cap'n Lou right smack in the middle of it -- complete with rubber bands in his beard.

Aside from his "Rock 'N Wrestling Connection," Albano was a prolific manager, leading 15 different tag teams and four singles competitors to pro wrestling championships.

Rest in peace, Captain Lou.
