John Cena’s time as the face of the WWE will come to an end within the next half decade and in that time amongst the younger crop of wrestlers the one most likely to replace him is the Miz. I have mentioned in this post what I believe are criteria for the job and why the Miz fits the bill.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->1) <!--[endif]-->Charismatic Enough for the Job
JBL in reference to Cena once said something to the effect of a top guy not being one who can do perfect chin-locks but one who can put asses in seats. Putting asses in seats requires charisma which the Miz possesses in abundance. It is his mic skills and charisma that take away focus from his average in ring prowess. Hulk Hogan, one of the most popular wrestlers ever and face of the Company for a long time was perhaps one of the least skilled “wrestlers” who ever walked the face of the Earth but he possessed charisma in abundance which is why he was as popular as he was. It was a combination of his charisma, mic skills and catchphrases and good booking that made him sell out arenas and merchandise all over the world. Stone Cold, no doubt one of the greats was at the peak of his success essentially a brawler with a move-set limited to punches and kicks peppered with the occasional suplex, neck-breaker or Lou Thesz Press. Hardly extraordinary stuff but again, he possessed extraordinary charisma and mic skills which more than compensated for his limited wrestling ability. Speaking of charisma and mic Skills, one simply cannot overlook The Great One – The Rock again with limited wrestling ability. The same can be said for Cena. In terms of wrestling ability as well as mic skills the Miz is as good if not better than any of the stars just discussed. He almost always gets a reaction from the fans and an example that can be taken here is the crowd chanting along with him when he returned at Money in the Bank 2012. In terms of charisma, amongst the younger crop of wrestlers- the Miz Is head and shoulders above everyone else. If turned face and booked well, I believe that he can be the top draw for the Company simply because he has the charisma for the job.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->2) <!--[endif]--> Mainstream Presence
The Miz has a greater mainstream presence than any of the younger stars in the WWE. He has to his credit numerous appearances on television like Psych and the Nickelodeon awards. This is in addition to his stints as a Reality TV Star. His upcoming lead role in the third instalment of the Marine will only make him more popular. If there is one thing Vince McMahon craves its mainstream viewership and acceptance which is one of the reasons WWE turned PG in the first place and the Miz is the most likely out of the younger crop to gain that mainstream acceptance.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->3) <!--[endif]-->Age on his side
The Miz is comparatively younger than some of the other options that the Company has such as Randy Orton, CM Punk or the latest in the pushed-to-the-moon category – Sheamus. He is also less banged up than these stars having suffered no major injuries so far in his career.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->4) <!--[endif]-->Visibly Loyal and Dedicated to the Company
The Miz is exceedingly loyal to the Company and has publicly stated that he will not even consider working for any other Company in the business. He is extremely dedicated to his work and does perhaps the most publicity for the Company apart from Cena and Punk in terms of attending events and press conferences and interviews as well as his charitable work and his work with social media. John Cena has publicly praised The Miz on twitter for his dedication and hard work calling him one of the hardest working Superstars in the Company. This coupled with his mainstream presence makes him one of the most visible stars of the Company and it would only be natural for the Company to consider transitioning him into a greater role within the organization.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->5) <!--[endif]-->Endorsed by Veterans and by the Chairman himself
The Miz has received endorsement from several veterans of the business such as Shawn Michaels and JBl for the rapid improvement he has shown as a worker and as an overall talent. He also enjoys good relations with several WWE Hall of Famers and Legends. His 6 month WWE Title Run in 2010-2011 was the longest run with the title in 2 years and is the 16th longest title run in the last 25 years along with the fact that he main-evented Wrestlemania and beat John Cena in the main-event shows that the Chairman has faith in him as a main-eventer and as a Champion.
