Bill Goldberg says he would do a match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 29 then backtracks ... kind of
Twitter, once again, proves to be a source of news that probably isn't really news.
Just a short while ago, a followers of Jim Ross suggested that WWE should try to book a rematch between Bill Goldberg and Brock Lesnar for WrestleMania 29 next year. Ross, of course, responded that something like that would be highly unlikely to ever take place, which is true.
Then Goldberg decided to fuel the flames by tweeting back to Ross with three simple words that started a brief firestorm.
"I'd do it," he tweeted.
Naturally, Twitter lit up and every pro wrestling fan everywhere got all eager to jump in and talk about the possibilities, which are at least somewhat feasible seeing as Lesnar is likely on his way back to WWE for WrestleMania next year.
Because he seemingly didn't realize the power of the Internet, Goldberg quickly backtracked, in a way, with his next tweet.
"Guess I should think before I speak next time."
Oh, you knew what you were doing, Bill. You had to because you're a pro wrestler who knows the game, just like Lesnar, just like Ross. And just like the rest of us who feed into it because there's definitely a part of us that wants to see if you and Brock can make up for the abomination of a match you had before leaving WWE back in 2004 at WrestleMania 20.
Is there a chance in hell this match happens? No. But would anyone be interested in it if there even was a shot at it? Anyone at all?

Nope.
No interest, I remember it sucking, just re-watched the match…and it was still just as bad. Too much staring and grappling…was glad Austin got rid of both of them.

Austin..
killed that match. Both were completely overshadowed both of them. Him being there was completely uncalled for & was just another gimmick match just to gimmick.

This isn't even kind of true.
Brock Lesnar and Goldberg stalled constantly, opened the match with a staredown that went roughly the length of the Lou Reed/Metallica album, and the match had less than half a dozen bumps. None of that had anything to do with the referee, hell, Austin being there and Stunnering both guys after it was over at least provided a positive emotion from the crowd.

It breaks my heart.
Back in the 80’s, Metallica was the best band in the world, and on its way to being the greatest band of all time, and now they’re making concept albums with a man who hasn’t released listenable music since the Vietnam War.
Yea, and why would they even bother putting in any effort, when they came out for said match, the biggest pop was for the ref. Its not like it was a surprise ref.. they knew weeks in advance & thus you got the crap match. You completely misread what I was speaking to. I believe both Brock & Bill checked out early in Feb.. once Austin was going to be the ref.. they then checked all the way out & there was no reason to give a good match.. no one cared, all the fans wanted was the rattlesnake. As much as everyone burys HHH for being a heat killer.. no one dumps on the Rock & Steve Austin in similar ways.. and in fact when given the chance, they do the exact same thing. Hell.. Brock & Bill knew they were eating stunners to end the night.. WHY WOULD THEY EVEN BE MOTIVATED. I wouldn’t. That’s some BS booking.

I was listening to you, it doesn't make your idea any less retarded.
Saying that Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg put on a shit match because Steve Austin was thrown into the mix as a referee is like saying Charlie Christian wasn’t putting effort into his guitar playing because he was in Benny Goodman’s band, and knew he’d be overshadowed. It doesn’t even hold up to rudimentary scrutiny.
Hell.. Brock & Bill knew they were eating stunners to end the night.. WHY WOULD THEY EVEN BE MOTIVATED.
This is so ignorant of the original booking plans for that night it’s almost hilarious.
First of all, starting a few weeks, maybe months before Wrestlemania, Bill Goldberg told Vince McMahon that he wasn’t renewing his contract, which was set to expire after Wrestlemania. So Vince McMahon figured that the best way to make use of Goldberg would be to have him put over Brock Lesnar, his version of Goldberg. Because everyone’s favorite Jewish football player was a babyface at the time, and Lesnar was a heel, McMahon booked Austin to be the guest referee of that match so a babyface could punish the arrogant heel at the end of the match and send the crowd home happy without having the heel sacrifice a huge win or sending home a guy who was about to retire with a huge victory.
The problem with this a few weeks, maybe days, before Wrestlemania, Lesnar said that he wouldn’t renew his contract with WWE, which was set to expire at the same time Goldberg’s contract was. In ordinary circumstances, McMahon would’ve just booked Lesnar in a separate match so he could eat the pin against someone sticking around, but the notice was so short that everything on the card had already been booked and announced long before Lesnar dropped this info. Thus, Vince decided, “fuck it, just give Goldberg the win and have Austin stunner both those guys,” because he didn’t want two of the biggest stars in the company to walk out on a big win.
How on earth was that unjustifiable?
If your in a position where a person much more famous than you is thrown into the mix not to humiliate you, but help you, its always a good thing. Lesnar and Goldberg just put on a shit match because both guys were retiring the next night, and neither wanted to feel sore in the morning for a match that wouldn’t help either of them in any way.

Short of another Cena vs. Miz match, I can't think of any wrestling rematch I'd want to see less.
Including Undertaker vs. Kane III at Wrestlemania.
Whoa
1) that’s pretty harsh and 2) I agree with you compleatly

I love both guys but dear god their first match was horrible. I have no interest in seeing another.

If we could somehow rewind the clock to about 2002, I might be interested in Lesnar/Goldberg. Unless it was a shoot. I’d watch that for sure.

What killed the match was both guys being gotten to by the crowd. If Austin wouldn’t have been there it wouldn’t been a way more forgettable shitfest. To say Austin hurt that match is beyond absurd.
